Nothing.
This past summer my crazy neighbor was up at 930 at night building a deck every night. It was insane.
Eventually they will start to use it less and less.
So my neighbors that live directly behind me got a new trampoline. They have always been neighbors that would have parties with family from time to time until late at night and have a bunch of screaming kids in the backyard. But it would usually be on the weekends when we were up late anyway and not all the time. Since they got the trampoline I feel like I am listening to screaming kids ALL the time. I mean right now it is 9:20, I am trying to wind down with a little Hawaii 5-O after a super long day and I am having to focus really hard to hear my TV over the sound of screaming kids. I mean, don't these kids have school tomorrow?? Are they going to go to bed all sweaty and revved up?? I realize those questions are just down right nosy, but really it seems so weird to me. Thank goodness my kids sleep through it!! But it is unnerving after a long day to have to listen to a boy screaming for his mom that is obviously in the house or high pitched girls laughing in their little shrieky voices. Usually by 10 or so all is quiet. So here is my actual question now that I have vented to you awesome ladies taking the time to read this...Is this an issue you would say something about? I thought about calling my home owners association and seeing if there is a time that things are supposed to quiet down and see if they would handle saying something to them for me as this is an every night thing now. But then I think, hey we are neighbors, I rescued their dog once, the fixed a broken board on our mutual fence...surely I can just talk to them about asking their kids to keep it down after 9pm? I really don't care how they run their house, I mean it is their life I would just like the kids to stop screaming at night. Then I thought maybe I am just being really selfish. I have younger children that go to bed at 8pm, I am home with them all day and listen to them calling me ALL day long so maybe I just don't want to hear kids anymore and they are messing up my peace time and I just need to be thankful my kids don't wake up, suck it up and move on. What would you do??
Well tonight they closed up shop at 9:45 which really wasn't too bad. We have all had bad colds around here, I don't have any voice at the moment, so I guess I was just done today....But I think you ladies are right, they are just kids having fun which can be annoying to us grown folks, but hey what are you gonna do right?? Thanks:)

I wouldn't worry about this at all. In my opinion, it's just that you're tired of hearing kids period at the end of the day. Yes, maybe it's annoying, but come on, these are just kids having fun with their new toy. In most places the noise requirements are after 10:00 and I seriously doubt anyone will enforce it for kids playing on a trampoline. I wouldn't talk to the mom either, it's not up to you to set the time-line for her family and I don't think 9ish is too late for older kids. Think how annoyed you would be if someone approached you to complain about the noise your children made while playing in your yard. At some point this will be your children and you'll want people to understand that kids are kids, and guess what, they make noise. I say if they are only making noise and not being destructive of your property, then try to let it go. It will probably subside after the novelty wears off. BTW, my kids are under 2 so my perspective is not from being one of the parents with kids playing outside late. Good luck!
Nothing. I know in our city our noise ordinence says "all quiet" after 10pm. So, if the kids are quiet by then, not anything you can do about it!
I understand where you are coming from, don't get me wrong!! My boys are down at 8pm too. BUT, if you feel really strongly about it you certainly can talk to them, however realize you may come accross as a bit batty. lol. It's a brand new toy for their kids. The novelty will wear off soon, and the weather and time change will get the kids inside earlier.

The newness of the trampoline will probably die down soon. Any chance you can use some headphones to watch your tv programs? I would probably just deal with it for now... at least your kids are sleeping through it :-)
Nothing.
But I feel your pain...
My next door neighbor gets up in the summertime, every Saturday morning at 6:00am and MOWS his front and back yard!!!
Are you KIDDING me?? UGH!!! My bedroom window is on the side next to him and it wakes me up EVERY TIME...nobody else in the house is effected, my hubby could sleep through a war zone and my kids' rooms are on the opposite side, so it's just me that gets effected.
I have lived in my house for 10+ years and never once said anything to him about it... I just don't do well with confrontation...
Yeah... it's hard when we're either at different developmental or life stages, or when our neighbors have different lifestyles.
My nextdoor neighbors on one side HATE us. (The other side, we're good friends). ESPECIALLY during the summer they absolutely loathe our house. They're retired, and they take naps after lunch year round. We have a pool and a big yard, so our yard is full of kids all summer. They also go to bed at 6pm, and leave their windows open. So anytime we choose to BBQ we get screamed at because of the smoke blowing in. Of course, they bbq all the time, especially in the same 95 degree heat *I* bbq in, not cooking in a house with no air con! Just earlier. But my son, and his friends, don't usually go to bed until 10pm in the summer (and it's often light out until 1030)... Of course, most of kiddo's friends go to bed at 10pm year round. We don't, currently. But 10pm is STILL 2 hours before the noise ordnance kicks in on weekdays, and 4 hours before weekends. (midnight and 2am... like I said... it's a college neighborhood).
Of course, our neighbors who hate us, they're out using loud lawn tools at the moment 6am strikes... but that's when "decent" people are already up. ;) I do know that they do it on purpose to bug us (for some reason the hedge needs to be trimmed on our side at least once a week... but the other side only needs it twice a year)... but it doesn't bug us at all. For a couple hundred dollars when we first moved in we installed triple pane windows in the bedrooms, because college parties get LOUD around here, and we didn't want to be kept up.
My other neighbors are *also* semi-retired, but will come out on their deck for the sole purpose of listening to the kids play, because they miss their own who are all grown. And I'll sometimes sit with them under the stars as a frat party rages and we listen to the music and laugh about when WE were that stupid/ able to not spend all day the next day being ill.
(Our neighborhood is odd... about 1/2 college students, 1/4 young families... VERY young, our 8 year old is the oldest kid by 5 years..., and 1/4 people who WERE young families but who have now reached retirement age. The neighborhood stayed "young" because of the university a 5 minute walk away, so most of the older generation who have stayed LIKE the vibe... but our one neighbors hate it. And they REALLY hate us. It makes it VERY uncomfortable living next to them. I can only imagine in a few more years how awful it will be when we pave the driveway so we can play bball, or a few after that when it's music in kiddo's bedroom instead of peals of laughter in the back yard.)) While I can *empathize* with my neighbors who hate us, I'm also not going to change my lifestyle to match theirs. I can't expect them to change to match MINE after all.
So it IS very hard when we're at different places. <grinning> On the upside... your neighbor's back yard full of kids during your quiet time, you can REVEL in... because in a few more years you won't be reading a book, or curled up with a movie... but instead be outside still "working" (refereeing, minding, etc.)

Hey J.. Ugh that would drive me crazy too. Screeching laughter once your own kids are down.. I totally understand.
Do ask the homeowners association about it, just to see if you can use that when you speak with the neighbors.
Here in Austin 10:00 pm on weeknights is the cut off on loud noises.
We had a trampoline and in the beginning our daughter used it all of the time, but eventually not so much.. It could be the newness..
So yes, just nicely say, you can tel the kids seem to really enjoy it, but unfortunately you try to have your kids down by 9:00 , but with all of the sound bouncing into your yard, it has an affect on your household.. (you did not say it is the kids with the problem....so not really a lie.. )
They are just having FUN..I wouldn't approach the situation because nobody is in any danger.BTW i'm a sahm as well with 3 kids they go to bed by 8 but that doesn't mean the rest of us has too.
