Needy Stage

During the past two weeks my 8 mo. old son has gone from a fairly good sleeper on a regular schedule, to not being able to sleep two hours together unless he is being held or is in some kind of physical contact with me or his father.
Four of his upper teeth are coming in all at once, and I thought this could be the primary culprit. We've been giving him Infant's Motrin and the usual cold cloths and teething rings to help with the discomfort, but I thought I would ask if anyone else has experienced a needy stage like this?
I don't mind comforting him--it's actually very sweet to cuddle him during the night--but I have to admit that his father and I aren't getting much sleep these days!

What can I do next?

Hi M.,
I have never heard of those teething tablets but they sound good and I would also take him off the infant Motrin. My daughter always got hyper on that (and the chidren's Benadryl) and didn't sleep well when she was on them so I never really use those now. Tylenol will help him sleep if you need to use a pain reliever.

My son is about the same age and he's been doing the same thing. He is also cutting about 4 teeth on top at the same time. He's just now starting to go back to sleeping in his crib all night. Just give it time, he'll go back to his normal sleep patterns.

It is probably his teeth. Sometimes letting him sleep in his car seat (I used to put it right in the crib) helps because the teething puts pressure on their ears. All fruit popsicles help too (or frozen pedialite). He will be a brand new child once the teeth come in. My sons came in in groups of 2 to 4 as well.

teething tablets are the best!!!! if that doesn't work, you can always call the doctor and ask him what he thinks, it won't hurt anything~

Yes - I have experienced the same with my son. It is especially tough when this many teeth are coming in at once. I would just make sure that he is not sick as I did mistake a virus for teething one time. hang in there!

I don't have much advice for the sleeping problems but I do have some for the teething. My son had the same problem when teething. I got Hyland's teething tablets(bought at Walmart in the infants section) and they worked great. They are all-natural and contain chamomile and other such soothing supplements. I definitely recommend these to anyone with a teething child. I hope everything gets better for you all.
