I think the soft shoes are best for new walkers. Robeez were my favorites.
My 15 month old daughter is finally walking. Her aunts are looking to purchase her first pair of walking shoes. We shopped at Olly for my older children and bought Eccos which I liked. That was 3 years ago. I didn't know if other brands have come on the market in recent years that you'd recommend. The shoes will be bronzed once she outgrows them. Thanks Moms!
Thanks to the Mom who acknowledged the fact that my daughter is already walking. Hence, Robeez don't make sense. I need a sturdy, durable walking shoe for outdoors since Fall is upon us. I liked the Baby Botte recommendation however, where can you buy these? Do you have to order online? Olly doesn't carry them. Any other brands that you Momma's swear by?

We used Robeez with my son when he learned to walk (and prior to him walking because they helped keep on his socks). I loved them. They are cute and soft. If you are looking for something that is a little bit tougher for outside play though I would recommend Pedipeds. They are also very cute, soft, but strong enough for outside play. Both of them you can either just google and find sites online that sell them. I purchased my Robeez through diapers.com
Hope that helps.
We use Pediped or See Kai Run. You can buy them online, and they are designed to work with little ones in the first stages of walking. They are kind of pricey, but, we just buy one pair per season.
According to my son's developmentalists (he was a premie and with EI since birth), no shoes are the best. They need to be able to curl their toes on and around surfaces. If shoes are needed for safety or weather, the softer the sole the better, so they can still curl their feet. Then remove the shoes once inside and as much as possible.
Good luck!
As with everything, all kids are different. Barefoot is best for learning to walk, but of course they need shoes when outside the house. With my first, we went to Stride Rite and paid a good amount of money for shoes that she couldn't even walk in despite the "professional" sizing, etc. I know other people who have great luck with them, but for us they weren't right. Overall with my 3 kids, I have honestly had the most consistent luck with the Payless Smart Fit line. They are inexpensive (especially with sales) and have a good amount of flexibility and support. Wherever you go, just let your daughter try on the shoes and walk around a little and see how she does. Good luck!
I agree, the Robeez are great for learning to walk, but if your daughter is already walking, I recommend Baby Botte shoes. They have great support, are cute, and will look nice bronzed as well. Very sturdy well-made shoes. My daughter's first pair of shoes were pink Baby Bottes, and she became an expert walker overnight. Not saying it was just the shoes, but she certainly never tripped over them.
My son needed XW width shoes and still does at age 2. We bought Stride Rites and this is still our brand of choice. They wear well and are one of the only brands that carry XW widths.
