Kristin Hannah's books are good, light beach reads as are Jennifer Weiner's books, but this have no relation to paranormal. Maybe you'd like Time Travellers Wife if you haven't read it yet, or Memoirs of an Invisible Man.
Hi Moms!
I know you all have given me great advice in the past so I figured I would ask here. I am looking for a few ideas of good books to bring with on vacation (to read on the plane and those moments when I may get a break to sit down). I am looking for a "quick read" preferably with some romance. I tend to gravitate towards the paranormal or futuristic but am open for any genre...I also love series so I can get to know characters better. Do you have any favorites ... (new and old) that you would suggest I bring on my trip? Thank you in advance for any suggestions! I love learning about new books and series from other moms since they understand just how precious any free time you have really is. :)

any of the nicholas sparks books....i love his writings.
Have you ready any of Anne McCaffrey?
She writes novels about people in future times - who have moved from earth to other planets, etc. Her books have been around a long time, but if you haven't read them, they are good and you can get them really inexpensively at second-hand bookstores or from the library.
Slammed and it's sequel Point of Retreat by Colleen Hoover. Real page turners. I've also heard her other novel (unrelated to those two) is really good too - Hopeless.
Anything by Kristin Hannah.
Anything by Jodi Piccoult.
Anything by Anita Shreve--Sea Glass comes to mind for the beach.
The Twilight Saga was my beach read last summer. The Host, also by Stephanie Meyer was also good. I just started reading the Southern Vampires series (True Blood) by Charlaine Harris and I am enjoying it. As Diane C. mentioned Anne McCaffery has a few really great series. I read them years ago, but I liked the Crystal Singer series and the Drangonriders of Pern Series. My son just finished The Hunger Games series and I will be reading it next. I also got 50 Shades of Grey for Christmas, but haven't gotten around to it yet.
I just finished reading "The Night Circus" by Erin Morgenstern, and I really liked it. It's romantic and fantastical, but not futuristic. It's set in the late 1800s/early 1900s. The "Outlander" series also has a time traveling element, but it is set in the 1700s. The first few especially were very quick reads, though. I've had a number of friends say they liked the "Game of Thrones" series.
The Spellman series by Lisa Lutz is hysterical. It's about a family of private eyes and the main character, Izzy, is wonderfully quirky and real. I think Lutz is currently working on book 6 of the series. I can't wait to read it!
Have you found eharliquin.com. There are many - many books on the site and they also have ebooks. Not just romance but many many genres. I like the Debbie McComber books. She has a series about shopkeepers on Blossom Street, set in Seattle.
Night Road (family drama) or True Colors (romance) by Kristain Hannah. Both excellent reads, and they go quickly as they are so good.
I liked Abraham Lincoln Vampire Slayer, Pride and Predjudice and Zombies (there are two others that go with this one, both super easy to read and I loved all three. Also, liked Frail.....
Based on what you like, I heartily second the suggestion for The Night Circus, it's a terrific book, very different, a bit of the supernatural, love story.
I'd also suggest A Discovery of Witches. It's the first in a series, the second is out now as well. Romance, witches, vampires, time travel.
Happy reading!
I loved slammed and point of retreat by Colleen Hoover that someone below mentioned. Slammed is definitely a page turner - but keep tissues nearby. I didn't like hopeless as much due to the "conflict" content.
Abbi Glines is a fast, easy, romantic read. I've been enjoying her books. She has a series that has a paranormal element to it called the Existence Trilogy. I haven't read those, but her Sea Breeze series were excellent, The Vincent brothers were pretty good. Fallen too far was really, really good, but it ends on a cliff hanger and the sequel isn't out until end of February.
I also really love The Lure of the Moon trilogy. Problem is that one only has the first book out. Second should be out soon.
I recently read "I Couldn't Love You More"...it's a newer book but I forget the author's name. It was a good book and a quick read.
I am currently reading a series by PC Kast (or Cast). It is the House of Night series and there are 9-the latest one just came to my library. It's a good read and I like that there are 9 books and you aren't waiting to read the next one. Well, I am on the current one now so I might be in the boat when I am done but I get a bunch of ideas for another book from this webiste.
There is definitely romance and the supernatural. The first one is called "Marked, I believe.
Oh and I was excited to read Lauren M's answer as I read Discovery of Witches awhile ago and I didn't know the 2nd one was out. How exciting :)
