Hello,
I need some advice on a current situatuion..
I am currently pregnant and due in 3-4 weeks, and my current obgyn asked that I pay my 10% deducible towards my c-section 3 months in advance(back in october). I naively paid that with my flex card...well it turns out that they totaly screwed up with the calculations and owed me around 550 dollars. that amount had to be returned before the end of the year or I will lose it...anyway.. every week I would call them for the past 3 months asking them to refund and they came up with many excuses.
today i decided I would find another ob to change to,and i did (Dr. Garner), and when i told them that they said they would return the money right away and asked me to stay with them.
my question is...would you still change the doctor regardless(have been with her 5 years) or would you stay with your current ob?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Also... the doctor did know of thi problem since the beggining and assured me at that time that they will get it straightened out,,,her office is not that big and she is the only doctor there, so yes she is aware of everything..
The one thing that really annoyed me is that they kept on lying..

I agree with Mary - if it's the STAFF that's the problem, and not the Doctor, stay - but let the Doctor know what's going on so she can work with you to get it straightened out. She needs to know (if she doesn't already) that her staff are making mistakes like this so she can do something about it. And she should be sensitive to what affect the stress will have on you. Get her on your side, though - don't attack (even though you may want to); ask her for her help. Good luck !

If your doctor is Dr.Gardner in fort worth I would stick with her she deliverd my two girls and was very wonderful and always listend to me your doctor should have been aware of the situation and they werent then they are not running the office well, now they are afraid of losing a patient and money and don't want you to go. So I would change that is that last thing you need and either way you need to tell them you want the money now! I have changed obs in the middle of my pregnancy and I was fine and I changed to dr. gardners office and didnt leave this is your pregnancy do what makes you happy in any stage of your pregnancy.

Keep in mind that different docs have different surgical skills. I have seen some whose c-section scars routinely fade to less obvious than a tan line, and others who routinely heal like hamburger. IF this doc has already done a c-section on you and you are happy with how you heal, I would stay.

I would not change OBs because of this situation. Many doctors are not fully aware of all the details of how their office staff does things. So, to me this problem doesn't so much seem to be a problem with the doctor's qualifications as it does with how the doctor manages their office (I agree this can be an important aspect in finding a healthcare provider, but you are really only committed to this one for a few more weeks).

You have alot of time already invested with this doctor and the most important thing is that you trust the doctor to deliver your baby. IMHO, if you were that concerned about your choice of hospital, it would have been far better to switch OBs at the point in time the doctor changed their affiliations.

Before you cut ties with the current OB, I'd also suggest you find out how much another doc would want upfront to take someone so close to their delivery date - you might find that to be more expensive than you might anticipate. Also, keep in mind that doctors are a tight bunch and if you mention the reason you're changing, you're not likely to start out on the best foot with the new doctor as it might seem (irregardless of the situation) that your only concern is getting a "good deal". So, I urge you to be cautious in approaching this situation and consider what's the best interest in terms of your baby having a healthy delivery.

I am sorry to hear about your bad experience with your past OB/Gyn. Since I have moved to Dallas I have found that I really miss my small town Drs...Dallas Drs seem to be 90% interested in $ and 10% my health. I have had Drs here charge me for things I didn't have and claiming it was covered by insurance so who cares! My OB/Gyn pushed for me to have a c-section which was totally unnecessary (but you know she'd get more money if I went for it)...I had to tell her no at least 3 times. I could go on and on about Dallas Drs : (

I say hound them...it is always more effective in person (your Dr wouldn't want a scene in front of his other customers...I mean patients).

Good luck.
