Need Work Done on an Old Boiler.

Does anyone have a reccomendation? We have a rental property the heat isn't working properly. It is either too hot or too cold. We've checked the thermostats and they seem to be in working order. My FIL was here this summer and he thought it was a problem with the valves not shutting off correctly. Anyhow, long story short, we need to find a good repair person for this kind of job.

What can I do next?

DO NOT go thru Minnegasco! Their guys don't know what they're doing, and you end up spending more than you need to. The guys that we've used is Dennis from Team Mechanical. Make sure you get Dennis. He knows what he's doing, he knows how to explain things and he's really gifted at what he does. His direct line is ###-###-####. He also won't sell you anything you don't need, which was a problem we had with Minnegasco. If you need it, he'll suggest it and explain in full detail and totally understandably why you might want to consider it, but he never forces the issue. At least that's not the impression we got.

I don't have anyone to recommend to you but thought I would tell you that EVERY apartment I have ever rented more than a few that had boilers I encountered this same problem. One extreme or the other. So whatever the problem it must be common.

I've always used Minnegasco (now Center Point Energy. We also used Erickson Plumbing and Heating when we re-did our basement and Minneapolis Plumbing and Heating to replace a radiator. All seemed knowledgeable and we've had good luck with them.

We had Minnegasco come out and replace our boiler. We actually kind of had a difficult time trying to find people that felt reputable that were willing to work on a boiler.

Anyway - Minnegasco might have been a little more expensive (but not much), but the service was tremendous and we haven't had a problem again in the 2 years since we replaced it.

Good luck!
