Hi there. I would love to talk/write privately with someone else who is dealing with or has dealt with febrile seizures with their little ones. My lo is 15 months and has had 3 seizures so far. I am not dealing with this as well as i'd like and just want to share and hear from someone going thru this too. If you have time to write please feel free! TIA

What can I do next?

What's causing the rise in body temp?

I was 12 and had one myself with a fever of 106*F. Cause was heat stroke. My mother got it down with full strength Tylanol, Motrin, and ice packs under my armpits.

The only way you can prevent febrile seizures is keeping the body temp normal or as close to it as possible no matter the age.

You can PM me the answer/questions.

My daughter had her first one at 14 months, I was pregnant with number 2, had just gotten married, and had to have Advanced Life Support meet us on the road because she seized for 45 minutes. Talk about scary. I can't drive by that place still without tearing up. And I pass it going to and from my parents house 10 minutes away. She had them until she was 5.5. Feel free to message me.

My son had his first when he was 1 right after his MMR vaccine. He continuted to have them every time he had a fever. There was no stopping them. The first 2 were scary for me, but then I became comfortable with them because I knew they weren't harmful and I always knew when he was about to have one. He would be playing just fine, and then he just wanted to lay down. I would wait for him to have a seizure and then he would and it would be over with in a few minutes. You'll get use to it and it won't be so scary after a while. Good luck.

I too am having a hard time my twin daughter had a seizure at age 5 I think it was sometime between april and june she was at he babysitters and no one was sure what happened because she was sleeping they thought she was dreaming and then she sat up vomited and pee'd herself. Of course the next was was when I was in the hospital recovereing from surgery so I couldnt bethere for her again this happened in august. Luckily my mom and husband were there, my mom said she had complainedof the back of her neck hurting for about 6 hours before she seized but because her and her twin were funning and jumping in the house she just thought she turned it wrong or bumped her head because she would still play so it was like itwas just an ache. Later that night at supper she kept putting her head on my moms shoulder like she was tired andthen I guess her eyes got big and she stared at my mom like she was terrified and had a seizure. They took her straight to ther er the staff did some tests and said she had a fever and told us they believed it was a febrile seizure. She hasnt had any more yet she had an eeg done recently and they said it looked clear, now we are scheduled to go to a childrens hospital to make sure this is all that it is and nothing is being missed. I'm worried because when doing all my research they say that children rarely have start havingthem after the age of 6 she will be 6 in November so I wantto know if any ofthe other children had them this late in age, thanks R.

Hi M.,

I feel for you! I know how it feels!!!! I have some experience with febrile seizures-my son had them and would be happy to email with you if you need some support. Its a very scary thing, but luckily it doesnt effect the brain like a normal seizure would. You can email me if you want to chat. Hang in there!!
