Before I had my dd, I took care of my friends' kids and their friends' kids, so I'm not liscenced, and I also want to know what the requirements are and I how I do that. I really need to take on a client. I just need to know a good place to advertise it. Any ideas??

Try makeing flyers or business cards if you can and put them on cars at grocery stores or any place where children go. If you want to know the rules and regs. go the the texas website.

To watch 3 children including your own you should be listed. You call the above place and ask for the paper work. They do a back ground check but don't come out to your house. You can always get registered later if you want to. That's is what I did.

everybody suggested craigslist.com, I use it too to advertise my childcare, but in the last 4-5 months I`ve noticed that I keep getting scams as a reply and get flagged a lot. I found most of my customers thru craigslist, but know I try to pass out business cards and talk to people more (neighbors, my son`s school, soccer games, etc.)

Mamasource has always been good advertising for my registered home. I created a webpage, too, and set it up with different searches. Word of mouth is the best souce, though.
I, also, work at a church nursery on weekends; and am always in touch with young families.
Once you are registered with the State, you can join your local Child Care Association. They should refer families to you. They keep your name available, if you have an opening and watch out for the age child you want in your group. Then you receive the calls. That's a good way to get part of your hours of Early Childhood Development, too. You get a lot of good information from them pertaining to inspections, etc.
Child care has been a wonderful source of income for me the past 21 years. I supported myself and two children after my husband died. There are so many advantages to offset the sometimes aggravation of *state red-tape*. There are a lot of income tax deductions. You can, also, join a Food Program once you're established with the state. More bookwork, but well worth the trouble. Through them you can receive a reimbursement on groceries and baby formula fed to the children.

Mamasource, craigslist.org have been a life saver for me. I am a License in-Home Daycare provider for almost a year here in texas.
Also the state website can help once you become, listed, registered or licensed. it depends on how many children you want to take care of.
IMO, word of mouth is still the best way.

Try the Greensheet, It is really inexpensive and very effective, you wont get flagged or scams like on craigs list and people call you directly. It helped me out in my first few months of operation
