Hi All !

I used to teach (college course) from the country where I came from. I have a Bachelors degree and a Masters taken from that same country. I'm just wondering where to get the certification and or license to teach here in the US. It seems that schools require those.
Also, I'm not so familiar with the schools who might offer such licensing.
One more thing is the licensing thing specific? for example to teach only in pre school, elementary or college?
Any knowledge on the matter is greatly appreciated.
Thanks !

What can I do next?

You do have to have specialization to teach in elementary, kindergarden, and pre-K. I don't teach, but am the child of educators. My mother has both her kindergarden/pre-K and elementary education certs.

Since you have a masters, you may be able to teach online education courses for college students also. So check with University of Phoenix to determine if you have the credentials.

I'm a teacher, and each certification is specialized...there is no general teaching certificate.

Talking to a university is probably the avenue you should take.
If you go through a school district's certification program, then you are only certified to teach in that school district. I believe it's a waste of time in case you wanted to move or teach at another district.

If you want to teach college aged adults, I know that the Dallas County Community College District is looking for adjuncts and they are really in need! It's part time but you can get a feel for it and if you like it, maybe you can go full time. Also, Mountain View College has a relatively new teacher preparation department. They are not just swamped with candidates yet so maybe you should call them. Good luck!

Hi! Have you tried any of the Region 10 (it's either 10 or 12...) programs? They offer an emergency certification program I believe. I think there is one in Richardson.
