Need to Give up Dog

Hello, I know that its cruel to the dog, but unfortunately we need to give up our dog and please don't criticize our decision. We just had our 3rd baby 2 days ago and the dog is just too much at this point, living in a 2 bd condo and allergies in the family. How do you find a good home for a 7 year old dog? I'm not very proud of this decision and feel bad, but I think we have to do it. Any suggestions would be great. Thank you

No judgment here. Sounds like you are really struggling with this. Congratulations on the new baby. Sounds like you truly have your hands full!

Hinsdale Humane Society will do their best to find a good home for your pet and will not euthanize the dog if they don't. They are good people. It's a good back-up plan if you are still trying to find a new home for your pet and you are unsuccessful.

Best of luck to you.

They might be able to help you.
They keep pets in foster homes until they find homes for them.

If you have trouble finding someone to take the dog, consider contacting Chicagolanddogrescue.org. I've volunteered with them and have adopted from them in the past.

good for you -- your child comes before your dog. Even being a dog lover, I can say with total confidence you are doing 120% the right thing. Good luck with finding the dog a new home.

WHAT KIND OF DOG AND HOW BIG? Poor thing but totally understandable. I have a friend who always sends pictures of dogs or cats or birds to all her friends on her email list. Its' been pretty successful. Oh and forgive me congratulations on the new baby!

YS,

I know how tough of a decision this had to be for you. We recently had to find a new home for our four-year-old black lab whom we loved to death. Unfortunately, he wasn't too happy with our twin boys when they started rolling to him.

I created a flyer about our dog and sent it out to everyone in my email, asking them to forward it on. Within a week someone called to take him. If this didn't work, we were going to contact local humane societies to help place him with a loving family. A friend of mine also placed an ad on craigslist and interviewed potential families when they had to find a new home for their dog.

Best of luck to you!

Wow...we're in the same boat. I had my 3rd baby almost a year ago and have now just decided that it would only be fair for Max and us is if we gave him to a good family. For a whole year we have tried our best to care for him but it has just become so hard with the baby and my 2 other kids (g-8, b-6). Both of us work and we have just been unable to care for him the way that he deserves to be cared for. I completely understand you and can only wish you good luck with your search. Congratulations, on the new baby. :)
