Need "Sweets" Idea

I belong to a goup of women that meet every other month for "game night". Well, this month, I am co-hosting and am supposed to provide something sweet for the gathering. There are typically 10-15 women. We eat and play a variety of games. I am short on time, so I need something I can either make quickly or buy. This time we have a Cinco de Mayo theme with the food (chips, queso, etc), but I don't think the sweets need to necessarily comply. Any suggestion?

What can I do next?

This is the simplest thing to make....It is called "dump cobbler." I learned about this when my son was involved in Cub Scouts. Take 2 cans pie filling (apple, cherry, peach, etc) bump them into the bottom of a 9x13 pan. Take one cake mix (any flavor) dump it on top of the pie filling. Take 1/2 cup of butter cut into pieces and dump on top of everyting else. Then sprinkle with cinnamon to taste. Bake at 375 for 45 minutes. DELICIOUS (not a Mexican theme, but oh so good and VERY EASY)!

you can make churros
Churros are a Spanish dessert that moved to all Latin American Countries. It's a delicious donut-like treat. Deep-fried to a golden brown and rolled in cinnamon-sugar. The churros or churos are doughnuts, squeezed out through a pastry bag and fried in long ribbons. They are served with piping hot chocolate.

I love making this browie pudding trifle and it's a huge hit everytime I make it!!

1 box Duncan Hines brownie mix
1 box Jell-O Instant Chocolate Pudding
1 tub Cool Whip
1 Hershey's Symphony Bar (chopped up)
You'll also need a trifle dish ($10 at Bed Bath & Beyond) or some kind of deep dish serving container

Make the brownies and prepare the pudding - chill the pudding.

Once brownies are cooled down, cut them up in squares. Make one layer of brownies in bottom of pan, spoon a layer of pudding over the brownies, spoon a layer of cool whip over the pudding, sprinkle the symphony bar pieces over the cool whip. Repeat until you run out of brownies (you can also make two boxes of brownies if you want to). As you go up in the layers, don't worry about making sure you cover the whole area with brownies. Chill once done. It's soooo d'lish!

Hi J.!

Sweets can be really easy if you think about it a little. Fruit and sweet dip is a big hit because fruit is healthier than most sweets!! A big fruit tray is great. Sam's has them for pretty reasonable prices.

Cookies (simple ones) are good too. Brownies & Breads are always a big hit as well, since they are again, not too sweet or can be iced to make them sweeter.

www.landolakes.com has some great recipes!

Good Luck and you guys have fun!!

Gladys

PS...you can always just dress up your sweets w/Cinco de Mayo items. check out the Party City place to see what they have!

I like the idea of going to the Mexican bakery and picking up pastries. Though Mexican pastries aren't very sweet like ours.

I love Apple Enchiladas.... they're easy and stay within your theme. You make them with pie filling.

I recently saw a cake shaped & decorated like a sombrero on someone's cake decorating website. You can see if a bakery can do something like that for your or even little cupcakes with a Cinco de Mayo theme. I know Sam's usually puts out "theme" cupcakes for practically every holiday.

What about making a sweet corn cake like you can get at the mexican restaurants?? Or trying your hand at sopapillas? Of course, for something fun, and not so mexican, we always love doing chocloate fondue. I have seen some great recipes on allrecipes.com for the sweet corn cake, I just havent gotten around to making it myself yet, but at least you can see the reviews of some who have. Good luck, and good for you for making yourself get out and have some girl time every once in a while! ~A.~

I'd go w/ the sweet breads and pastries found in Mexican grocery stores or the Mexican section of a grocery store.
I know the Super Walmart on Garland Rd has some delicious pastires that are only 3/ $1.00. You could get a wide variety and cut them into smaller pieces so everyone could try a few....
