Need Some Help with Potty Training - Dallas,TX

I'm wanting to get my daughter interested in potty training. I have bought her a seat, and she loves to sit on it. She has panties that she enjoys wearing. When she wears panties, I will take her to the bathroom every 20 to 30 mins. We sit there for anywhere from 5 to 10 mins, but she will do nothing. After we get off of the potty, is usually when she does it. I take her to the bathroom to change her panties, so she will associate that with the potty but it's not working!!! I think if I can ever get her to do it once in the potty, she will understand what I'm saying about going potty! Can anyone give me some advice or tell me what I'm doing wrong!

Thanks! By the way, whoever decided to only make Shrek and Cars in underwear and not panties- I'm going to sit them down and let them listen to a tape of a screaming 2 year old!!! LOL!

What can I do next?

R.---With 3 kids the one thing I dreaded each time was the potty training. My two boys were so difficult and my daughter who is 2 1/2 is doing OK with it. She's in full time day care and they really push it at this age. She does very well while she is at school, but at home or if we are at someone else's home, she is very resistant. Basically, you have to work slowly and gently. I know some people say you can do it in 3 days and I believe that really depends on the child. I know from personal experience that when I decided to wait until my child was ready, then we didn't have the frustration and upset times. How is your Mary Kay business going? I've been a consultant for almost 3 years and I love selling (and using) their products. D.

Hi R.!

I'm sorry I don't have any advice on the potty training... my daughter is 19mo and we are just starting to get the terms down, but I'll watch to see your advice.

However, I had to comment on the Cars/Shrek thing: Yes, my daughter loves Cars and other "boy" themes... It's 2007, haven't they figured out that girls like these things, too? She likes fish and sharks and I usually end up getting her things from the boys' section.

Good luck with the potty training!

P.

I'm with both you and Paula---girls like "Cars" too. When we went out shopping for panties, my daughter saw the "Cars" underwear and her world just lit up. I had to tell her no because they only made them for boys, it just broke my heart to see the frown on her face....

Hmmm..I'm headed to the store today..I'm going to check out the 800# and give them a call..Who knows what that will do!!

Goodluck with potty training,
BB

Don't force it! She'll do it when SHE'S ready. My daughter was three before she was using the potty during the day and she did it pretty much on her own. There was no frustration for either of us because we waited until she was ready to do it. Don't rush things because you think it's time or your mother in law or the moms in playgroup or church say she should be. Just keep the potties in the bathrooms and let her sit on them when you go. Eventually she'll get it and want to do it herself. In her own time.

Edited to add that just because they say "boys" doesn't mean you can't buy 'em for the girls! My daughter has worn lots of boy underwear and is doing just fine. :)
