Need Snack Ideas

I get really hungry in the evening time and I stand in front of the pantry or fridge looking for something to snack on. Any ideas of what I should keep stocked up on (besides fresh fruit) so I am not grabbing the cookies?

(Please don't say I need to eat dinner later or do something to distract myself from eating or anything like that. I just need snack ideas. Thanks!)

What can I do next?

Tammi,
This is still along the idea of fruit. But I LOVE frozen grapes. They kinda give you that ice cream fix. I prefer purple seedless grapes. You can also try those 100 calorie snacks. I would imagine that there is one or two that you like. Another one of my favorites when not pg is sherbert. Publix makes a really good one. I like the pineapple flavor. It's another great ice cream substitute.
I am pregnant, so I eat everything in sight right now:) So I'm not very good for this.

Of course my kids are very active, but they're both into good health all on their own! Yay! So their snack of choice, whether it's morning, noon, or night, is Total cereal or Cheerios. Skim milk. They pour a big ole bowl, and I never stop them, even after school but before dinner time. Seems to satisfy them...give it a try!

Okay sounds kind of crazy but my Dad told me about the individually wrapped Sunsweet prunes...never thought I'd like them but terrific quick, sweet snack. They are also high in fiber and even my kids like them lol. Also we go through a lot of caramel rice cakes...

I have the same issues with the snack attacks...I know what you mean :)

Take care,
L.

Tammi,

I have some good ideas - I am diabetic & I have to eat every couple of hours, but calories, sugar content & carbs are of high priority for me to watch. So when that late nigh crave hits me, I always stock my kitchen with :
(1) Chocolate cool whip (the frozen kind - better than ice cream if you ask me)
(2) Mini carots - dip them in ranch dressing or mustard
(3) *** fresh fruit if I can afford them & have not eaten my daily alotment of natural sugar *** be careful with fruit, most have tons of natural sugar - which you should eat in moderation
(4) Celery sticks - I love these - dipped in mustard
(5) ALMONDS (everyone sells large bags or canisters)- they are lower in salt & fat - very few carbs
(6) Sugar free pop-cycles - I adore these too - you can not tell they are sugar free

I hope these suggestions help

I try to always keep the following in the house for when the late night muchies hit :)
* Edamame (Sam's club sells this in frozen 8-packs: 3 minutes in the microwave- low fat, lots of protien, fun to eat)
* Light microwave popcorn (small 100 calorie bags are great- try adding a few tsp of parmesean cheese after it's popped)
* Frozen yogurt
* Baked tortilla chips & salsa
* Whole wheat pitas & hummus
* Light yogurt in yummy flavors (toss in a handful of plain Cheerios for some crunch- this works great for a quick healthy breakfast too!)
Good luck and enjoy!!
