Need Recommendation for Excellent Eye Doctor

Hi :)

I am in West Philly, so preferably someone who isn't too far. We also do not have vision coverage (unfortunately) so someone who isn't too expensive.

I am looking for a REAL eye doctor (no "America's Best" - tried them and they were terrible!) who won't over-correct and does their best to prolong or preserve vision instead of just giving the highest prescription necessary (does that make sense)?

Any recommendations?

Thank you so much, mamas!

What can I do next?

Not sure about pricing but for at least getting a prescription, I would use Harry Landrum. He is on Shunk St just off Passyunk, not too far. I work in West Philly & have gone to him for years. He is THE best dr I have seen for getting me the right prescription. I usually just take my prescriptions elsewhere to get my contacts & glasses because my insurance only lets me see him for the visit but not get my stuff but so long as you have the prescription from him, anyone should be able to fill it.

Or what about going up to Wills? Don't they have clinics where the students are allowed to do the appt under the supervision of the doctors? That way, the price is more reasonable & you will be getting a good doctor. I know that it is a student but as a student, they are certain to be more thorough & the supervision is there to make sure everything is addressed.

Hi A.,

I would highly recommend Dr. Steven Berger (Eye to Eye Contact). His office is at the corner of West Chester Pike and Glendale Road in Havertown (across from the Manoa Shopping Center). The commute shouldn't be too far from West Philly, depending on where you live. The office number is ###-###-####. Good luck.

I would go to lenscrafters. I work at the one at deptford mall. basic eye exam is $87.00. AAA provides a discount on the eye exam of about $25.00. The other side where you can get glasses there is a 30% discount for frames and lenses with AAA. If you do not have AAA,then we are having an unbeatable event. Single vision and lined bifocal, free lenses with a frame $169.95 or above. We have a 30 day guarantee also if you do not love your new glasses. Go on the internet to the lenscrafters website and put in your zip code to find the nearest lens crafters. the plus of lenscrafters is that most prescriptions can be done in an hour. hope this is good information. take care

Good Morning A.
My name is N. and I am also from Portland Or. Ive been here for 20 yrs, and I have 1 teen and 2 kids that are in there 20's. We are like You and have no vision insurance, my idea to you is to check the hospitals, Teaching hospitals, we have the University of Pa right in Philly, Teaching Hospitals cant charge as much as Dr's offices because they arent certified, but the teachers are, the students will look you over as if they are cert. and if there is questions on something they see they talk to the specilist, note these students are not 1st years, but they are almost ready to get into the real world there are like 3 colleges and a couple of Universities there, hope this helps, any information is better then none. Please let me know if I have helped at all.
Good Luck and God Bless you and Yours
