I've lived in Texas for 3 1/2 yrs and haven't found anyone I'm totally satisfied with. The person I go to currently, just doesn't cut my hair well. This last cut was just awful. It's uneven in the back!
I'm going through a divorce so I don't have a lot of extra money like I used to.
My main problem is the color fading or washing out. I have oily hair, and have to wash my hair every day. I use shampoo and conditioner for color treated hair, and I'm not sure if that even helps. I'm getting a lot of gray, too. I've tried coloring out of a box, and that seems to fade/wash out even quicker. I think my hair grows fast too. After three weeks, I see roots and those pesky grays. I'm not sure what the solution is here. Buy the box and color every 3 or 4 weeks or keep searching for a colorist who uses a product that will stay in my hair longer.
Not to mention my current person doens't agree w/me on using ash color in my hair. I don't like the red in my hair and have always used ash, she won't.
Right now, I can't afford 80+ for a cut/color. PLEASE HELP! Any ideas or suggestions will be helpful!

I love Carmen's Magic Touch. Carmen does my hair there. She's in Lewisville off of Main Street. Her # is: ###-###-####. She charges $80 for a color and cut. ($60 color, $20 cut). She also styles it before you leave. You will not leave with wet hair that looks horrible. You'll be able to go somewhere right afterwards. :)
Call Julie Layman. She is wonderful. She can come to you and you can pay less than at the salon. She knows how to correct the red and brass tones, because I am very, very picky! She gives a great cut as well. She just cut my hair and my two year old daughter's hair two weeks ago in a new style, and we have both gotten several compliments from strangers while around town! You didn't say where you live, but if you are in the Southlake/Grapevine/Colleyville/Keller/Hurst area, my stylist is great and affordable. She is Leslie Dixson ###-###-####). The salon where she works is on the border of Colleyville and Hurst.
I too wash my hair every day. She suggested a great sulfate free shampoo and conditioner that help the color stay. It's S Factor Color Savvy. It smells great and truly does seem to help prevent color fade.

I live in Keller and use Brandi Hofer at Venetian Salon. She always has a coupon in the Keller Citizen for a free haircut when you get a color. She doesn't mind if you use it either. I pay $65 before tip. She listens to your requests and has never done anything to my hair that people don't just love and whatever color she uses lasts about three months as that is how often I go in. Have you tried Fantastic Sams? I've been to the one in Grapevine and just went to the one in Keller on Saturday and both were great. I had a cut and highlight done (I have really long hair) so it was $65 with that and a blowdry. That's by far the cheapest I've ever paid. Regular salons I've never paid less then $100. Cindy at the Keller one did my hair and she was awesome about offering advice and the job she did.
You didn't give a specific location, so I will give you information on one that I know will do a good job for not much money. The place is called Estela's and it is in Fort Worth (NW). The stylist is Juanita. She speaks Spanish as her first language, but is okay with her English. There are other stylists there that can help you in talking to her if you need it. She does GREAT color and I always walk out of there with a good cut. The price for a partial with a cut was $45 and a full highlight with cut was $65. i get my hair cut by a girl named tina in grapevine - i don't know the name of her salon but her phone number is ###-###-#### - she does a REALLY, REALLY great job - i am also on a budget so i usually just get a cut - not the wash & blow dry and all that - she usually only charges me around $20-$25 - don't know how long your hair is but she is very fair - especially if you let her know you are trying to save money and don't need all extras - i always tip her well though because her prices are so fair - i have had her color my hair before when i was having it highlighted and she does a great job at that too - my friend also goes to her and her hair always looks great - the color is always bright and not faded looking - i have actually started dying my hair black and love it - kinda crazy but enjoying it - anyway my hair grows really, really fast also - and i have alot of gray - i actually buy this stuff at sally's beauty supply for $6.99 called 'godfrey" - it is in a red & white box - it is some old timey stuff - they only make it in brown, black, & jet black but i love it because it totally covers my gray and doesn't ever fade - i do have to do my roots every 3 or 4 weeks because they show so fast but i don't ever have to recolor the rest of it - anyway if you call tina, tell her P. taylor referred you - good luck

Walmart---Roanoke!!!! I know it does not seem like they would do a good job but I love the color/cut that Gloria does. The only thing is you have to get there as soon as they open otherwise you may have to wait...the good thing is you can always put your name on the wait list and do some shopping while to wait. Hope that helps!

You could try one of the cosmetology schools. They usually do a pretty good job, without being too expensive. I always found that trying to do it at home was too much trouble and too much of a variation. Another inexpensive option would be to go to a Supercuts or Heflins. You might be able to work out a deal with a friend to help you too. I did that for a while. A divorced friend and I would get together on the weekend we did not have our kids and just have a fun time coloring each other's hair and doing our nails! Of course, wine to celebrate a successful completion was always a must!
Pro Image Salon in Irving (MacArthur & 635). Ask for a consult with Susan. Explain what your issues are - get her advise/suggestions. It's about 35 for a cut - but she is TOTALLY worth it. I have not used her for color, but I have asked her advise on color/highlights. (I highlight my own hair) If you are looking to do the color yourself she isn't going to knock you for it, she will help you get it right.
Dont know where you live or would drive to..but my hair dresser lady is in Rockwall...she is good...i had a bad situation with another stylist that fried my hair..and she got my hair back to being healthy...actually very healthy and shiney....if you would like her number i can give it to you....it is usually around $100 when i get it done..color,cut,blow dry, and style....and i usually can go about 3 months....and she works with you on what you want and lets you know if something isnt right or what shampoo/cond to use.....if you cant use her..hope you find someone
