Hi i have tried weaning off cymbalta a few times with the taper method recommended by the p doc. However, i have not made it past 6 weeks without feeling like i just couldnt take it anymore and restarting the meds. I need help either with alternative medicine or something else to help me get off this. Does any one have a person they have used or method or supplements to help with the overall withdrawal crappy symptoms you feel when getting off. Would appreciate any replies!
Thanks

Not sure if you want to change your diet, but Specific Carbohydrate Diet (www.breakingtheviciouscycle.info) and GAPs program (www.gaps.me) are options to consider. My daughter has autoimmune illnesses so we went on SCD and she is in remission. Many people with depression do well on these diets too. Some doctors think there is a strong connection between the gut and the brain. I used to have panic attacks and anxiety, but since getting on SCD, I haven't had either. I took Lexapro years ago after a particularly rough patch in my life and it made me feel like a zombie. The doctor assured me it was safe and one of the lowest meds I could take for depression, but it was horrible. I will never take a medication again after that experience (and I know everyone reacts differently to different drugs, but I was not willing to go through the possibility of having similar reactions to other drugs). Thankfully SCD has worked for us.

I would try a health food store. I used to take something called Happy Camper. There are several herbal remedies/vitamins they could recommend.

Is there a specific reason you want to get off them? Cost? Embarrassed that you take them?
Personally I have been on Paxil since May of 2008. Played with doses as low as 10 (felt uneasy) and as high as 40 (manic, suicidal, lazy). I have found that 20 mg works for me and I never want to be off it. My side effects are primarily laziness, but it outweighs the Type A Nervous Drill Sargent that I am without Paxil.
But I don't use Paxil for depression, in fact I never experienced depression until I GOT ON Paxil.

Believe it or not what CURED my depression was Colloidal Silver, and it was completely on accident.
I had West Nile last summer and I was taking copious amounts of Colloidal Silver to try and get better. I happened to read that large doses activate something in the brain to lift the depression. It worked, because I use to suddenly get depressed for no reason, and I have not had that horrible feeling since last summer :)

I'm sorry I don't have any other suggestions for you besides the Silver....

Whatever you do, don't combine this with an herbal remedy. You never want to mix scripts with herbal supplements. It can be dangerous.

I'd talk to your doctor about an alternative medication. There are different types of anti-depressants from different families. I know when I was on Paxil, it made me extremely sleepy. When I was switched to Wellbutrin, I felt normal. Maybe you're decreasing the meds quicker than you should be. Every individual is different. And maybe you really do need the meds. Whatever the case, talk with your MD. And if you're not comfortable with the one you have, find another. It's your right.
