Hi Mamas!

My husband and I are in the process of relocating to Seal Beach, from Glendale. I have a two year old (27 months, not potty trained), and a 6 week old - both boys.

My toddler has been enrolled in a wonderful preschool program in La Canada since July and I'm struggling to find something comparable near Seal Beach. I'm hoping you can help my search with some great referrals. I'll consider Seal Beach, Long Beach, Rossmoor, Westminster - anything near the 405 / 605. I've toured Rossmoor Children's Center, which I like but they have a long wait list and don't anticipate an opening until at least February, but more likely June. I need something for November 1st.

I'm open to various teaching methods, although my son seems to strive in environments where learning is focused through discover and play.

Thank you for your suggestions!

So What Happened?

Thank you, mamas, for all the great recommendations.

I toured all those suggested and have enrolled him at Mayflower Preschool in Los Alamitos. While all the other schools were great options as well, we felt Mayflower suited our son's personality the best. The Director and teachers seem especially nurturing and caring, the other children seemed to enjoy their classrooms and activities, the playground was great, and I particularly liked the outside programs the school offered the children (i.e. Spanish, Gymnastics, Soccer, etc).

I feel relieved the search is over, and even more relieved that I found a great preschool for my son to relocate to in the coming weeks.

Thanks again!
R.

Try Edgewater Preschool in Long Beach. My son started there when he was 2 and he is thriving. There is a lot of outdoor play time, learning through play, sometimes the kids help with the lunch menu, they have field trips and park days, and they focus a lot on building the children's self esteem. I don't have time to go on about the rest, but I highly recommend it

My 2 1/2 year old is also at Edgewater Preschool in Long Beach, near CSULB. We really like the caring staff and the learn through play curriculum and a lot of the other activities mentioned by another reader. :) My little guy has blossomed.

In Los Alamitos (just inland from seal beach) check out Mayflower preschool located at the congregational church on Katella just past Bloomfield. My nephews went there and loved it. Also in our area is "little school of the west" I've heard its very academic, and highly structured which isn't for everyone.

best of luck to you.

This may not be too helpful right now because I think these programs start at age 3. But in Seal Beach there are two co-op pre-schools, which means the parents run/work in the classroom. If that set up is interesting to you, you can check out Seal Beach Playgroup or Sun 'n Fun (both have websites). I was interested in Seal Beach Playgroup but I couldn't make it work with my work schedule. There is also a pre-school in Seal Beach called Growing Tree, although I don't know their age requirements.

Hi R.,

Welcome to the coast! Petite Montessori is a home based preschool in Long Beach a few blocks from LBCC. DeAnna runs a wonderful program, check out her website, I believe she has openings.
