First of all First Time Mom, congrats! I know this is a nerve-racking time, especially having a newborn and then having to switch drs. We've had an absolute FANTASTIC pediatrician for a little over 8 yrs. His name is DR. ALI F. CANDAS w/ THE CHILDREN'S CLINIC ("TCC"). The newest southside ofc. is directly across from Spohn South on Saratoga, located inside the Driscoll Emergency Care Bldg ###-###-####). TCC has 5 offices with over 16 pediatricians, and Dr. Candas spends his time between the southside ofc and the Alameda ofc. The older Alameda ofc. is across the pkg. lot from Driscoll Children's Hosp. ###-###-####). TCC also has a nice ofc. at the Bay Area Hosp. ###-###-####), which I used to go to before they opened the southside ofc. 1 1/2 yrs. ago.
I have 2 children, one an always "well" 12-yr. old and an 8-yr. old special needs child with several diagnoses. From the very first appt. with my 8-yr old (when she was 3-mo. old), I could tell Dr. Candas was different -- this was when I made the switch to him. He immediately CONNECTS with the CHILD, is very likeable and compassionate, LISTENS to the parent(s), and is OPEN to discussions, tests & referrals rather than quickly dismissing mothers as being overly "neurotic." He truly cares about his patients and obviously loves what he does. Other moms in the waiting room always comment that they just love Dr. Candas - he's the best. He's very patient and giving of his time, stays on top of his field of practice and gives back to the community in many ways. Two years ago he served as Chief of Staff at Driscoll Children's Hospital, as well. As for me with my special needs child, he's been simply INDISPENSABLE. My daughter has numerous specialists, including several at Driscoll and Texas Children's Hospital in Houston. Dr. Candas has been the ideal "Gatekeeper" in monitoring and keeping up with her various specialists at both hospitals.
Without any doubt, I recommend Dr. Candas to all new moms to the area and any moms looking to make a switch. I hope this helps. If you have any questions, feel free to reply.
