We recently found out that my daughter's preschool teacher got a job in the school system as a substitute. She will be leaving tomorrow. Time has gotten away from me this week and I just realized I need to get a gift - tonight! I have limited funds but would like to get her something nice as a thank you/good bye gift. Any suggestions? Thank you!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you, Ladies, for your suggestions. We bought a nice gift certificate for Kohl's (she lives near one)and she loves shoes. Since she wears flip-flops and tennies to daycare we thought it would be nice. We got a card & wrote some appreciative sentiments in it about our daughter's year in her PS room and a little sentence about the gift certificate so she can "step into" her new position in a great new pair of shoes. :) We added some photos of our daughter as well. She wanted to get her teacher a new pencil (that was her sweet gift suggestion!) so we went to Walgreen's & picked one out, she chose her own goodbye card, drew her a picture and we added one of her new little barrettes since she always has one in her hair. Thank you all for the advice! It has been much appreciated!

I agree with the gift card idea -- even $5 Wawa card or AC Moore card (do you have a Becker's near you?) will be appreciated. But I have heard from some teachers that one thing they really appreciate is a handwritten note thanking them and telling them what a difference they made in your child's life.

I don't think there's a person on Earth that wouldn't appreciate a GIFT CARD! Gas card, coffee place, Target, etc. You can get O. for any amount and enclose a nice little note--like " a little something for gas to help you arrive at the next batch of lucky kids who'll be getting a wonderful teacher" "Some $ for coffee to get you up and ready for your next challenge" etc. Teachers always end up buying some of their own supplies so maybe a craft store if you know this is the case?

Hi B.,

I absolutely agree. Some of the best gifts for a teacher are gift cards or food items (candy, dry ingredients for a dessert item, a basket with ingredients for a dinner like spaghetti, etc.) Anyone can use them. I am a preschool teacher also, and I have to say, I can always find something to do with those gifts. Good Luck.
