My husband and I are expecting our 2nd child in Oct. Even though we don't know the sex yet, we are hoping for a boy this time. We have talked about using my husbands name which is Scott. He is not sure if he wants to use his middle name Clifford. Can anyone give us some ideas of a middle name that goes with Scott? Thanx

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you all for your great ideas. As for using family names... My sister in law had a boy 9 months ago and used Joseph as the middle name so I don't want to be the same and my grandfathers name was Ernest and that name just doesn't flow. My fathers name is Stanley and I just don't like that and my FIL, Grandfather in law and BIL are all Richard so that wouldn't work either. Too many Richards. I really do like Scott Thomas. That sounds really nice with our last name. Something to consider. As for getting my hopes up for a boy, well we are just working on the names. We are going to find out this time and when that time comes and it does end up being a girl then we will work on the names then. We do know that we will use Paige either as a first or middle name. When my daughter was born the hospital screwed up her birth certificate. They put her as Ashley Paige instead of Ashley Nichole. So my husband thinks it's a sign that our next daughter use the name Paige. So we are working on both was just curious what you guys thought for a name with Scott. Thank you all again.

Coming from a family w/ a dad and brother who share the same name...use Scott as a middle name!!!
It is very confusing/annoying now that they are both men-even more so since their voices sound the same sometimes.
How about Clifford Scott?
GL on getting that boy!

Scott Michael, Scott Andrew, Scott Thomas, Scott Joseph...I think it will be best with a 2 syllable name for the middle name.

Why not use your husband's name as your child's middle name?

In my girlfriend's family, it's a tradition to use the grandparent's name as the middle name. I think it's a wonderful tradition.

If you don't like those...
Scott Allen
Scott Anthony
Scott Thomas
Scott William

I would just avoid anything with one sylable. (I don't like Scott John, Scott James, etc)

I have three (2b & 1g); the first names are just names that we liked, but we chose middle names after family members; my first son's middle name is Robert after my brother who was killed in a car accident many years ago; my second son is Walter after my father and father-in-law; my little girl's middle name is the same as mine. Is there anyone else in your family that you might like to honor? Good luck and congrats!

Scott Alexander is nice...we always expected boys, but had girls every time. Our first daghter (had she been a boy) would've been named Jacob Alexander. Our second daughter (...) was to have been named Michah Chase. Congratulations on your baby!

Is there another male relative whose name you'd like to use?

Lots of names can go along with Scott. Scott William... Scott David... Scott Edward... Scott Michael... Try putting any other name with Scott and see if the two are easy to say together out loud. Then try putting them with your last name and see if you like how it all works.

I really like the name Scott (one of my adult nephews is Scott Adam). We were going to use Clifford as a middle name the first time around but had a girl and changed to a different middle name when we did have a boy next time. If I was using Scott, I'd probably choose a middle name that started with a vowel, since it ends with a hard sound, I think a vowel would flow better - for all that it really matters since most people aren't called by their first and middle name except when you announce the birth.

Can Scott be a middle name? My 1st born DD shares my middle name and my second child DS shares my husband's first name as his middle.
Jacob Scott, Matthew Scott, Logan Scott, Michael Scott, Benjamin Scott, Adam Scott, are there other namesakes in your family you can consider?

Look at your family for ideas. My husband and dad both have their mother's maiden names for their middle names. We altered my maiden name and used that four our second daughter's middle name. My first daughter's middle name is her grandmother and great-grandmother's name.

How about Michael or James? Also look at your last name for example when I was pregnant with my daughter we were thinking Rebecca Anne but my last name is Wood so her initials would of been RAW, like my husband said it isn't going to happen and with my son Justin I wanted Eric for his middle name, by did I get yelled at for that one; now I look at everyone's initials. LOL And to think we went through this 5 times.

What's Grandpa's name? Can you use that?
Or your brother's, his brother's. My boys are both named after Grandpas, their middle names are also family names.

Because Scott is a short name, I think the middle name should be long (3 syllabols or more) Scott Roderick, Scott Nathaniel, Scott Alexander, Scott Christopher, Scott Benjamin, Scott Gabriel. I like all those. I think a strong name it better and a less common one is better because Scott isn't all that strong and is quite common. What about using Scott as a middle name if you pick something else? Just a thought. Good luck!

I feel like you are getting your hopes up way too high by hoping to have a boy this time. What if it's a girl? Shouldn't you be thinking about girl names too??? Congrats on #2, and I hope you will be just as happy if it's another girl.

I think middle names should symbolize something, not just be another name. The middle names of our children are the first names of my grandmother and my husband's grandfather. I know people who have also used the mother's maiden name as a middle name. If there's no one in your family you want to honor in this way, I suggest finding a middle name that starts with C - the same middle initial as your husband. How about Scott Caden, Scott Christopher, Scott Cary, Scott Charles....

Congratulations, and good luck!

For ideas I recommend you take a look at what I found to be the best baby name book by far - The Baby Name Wizard http://www.babynamewizard.com/book
Brilliantly organized and extremely informative and when it lists each name it also suggests good sibling names for your family. It has been a long time since I read it but I think it also has thoughts on choosing a middle name.
