This is our family first outing to Yosemite, and we'll be staying at the Yosemite Lakes Public (Hillside Yurt). Has anyone ever visited that particular area? If so should we pack sleeping bags, bring a small pit, firelogs, bikes, lounge chairs or blankets and what types of snacks should we bring along? Im 6 mos. preg. and would like this trip to be as comfortable as possible

Thanks In Advance

What can I do next?

Have you checked to see what the yurt provides? The one we stay at (in a KS state park) has beds so we need pillows/sheets/blankets but can get away with not having sleeping bags unless we need them for warmth. You can also find out if the yurt has electricity or heat in case it is cold there.

Snacks and meals might depend on what kind of cooking you will have. Just the campfire or do you have a camp stove, too? A camp stove makes a big difference if you want to heat tea/coffee/cocoa, soup, basically smaller amounts of any liquids.

How long will you be? We do a lot of packet cooking - veggies, potatoes, etc. prepped in foil packs before we leave and tossed into either the fire itself or the grill above when needed. If longer than 24 hours and the weather is warmer, you'll need to replenish the ice in the cooler for any perishables you might bring for the other days.

I would say definitely bring your chairs, firewood, toilet paper, trash bags, fire starter material, matches, the items you need to cook with and eat with, games to play with the family, warm socks, and whatever munchies you like!

Have a great time!

What time of year are you going? I'm not familiar with the Yurt either. Will you be in a tent? Or is it a heated cabin? If you're going in the winter and the Yurt does not provide heat, you will be COLD. You will need good sleeping bags plus extra blankets. You should also consider a beanie or hooded sweatshirt to sleep in.

This website has some good info: http://www.stayatyosemite.com/yurts/lodging.aspx

For daytime snacks, bring whatever your would normally pack for snacks on an outing. Common snacks for us: granola bars, single serving packs of pretzels or teddy grahams, raisins, trail mix, fruit, wheat thins, fruit leather, etc. Anything that is easy to throw into a backpack.

Bring supplies for making s'mores, since that is a must-do activity when you're camping.

Have comfortable shoes for hiking and walking around. Bring extra socks and a second pair of tennis shoes/sneakers/hiking boots for if your feet get wet. You're going to want a lot of water while you're out hiking, so get some good water bottles. Since you'll have a fridge, maybe get a large (5 gallon?) water bottle to keep in the fridge and refill your bottles from that.

Camera and lots of memory space!

Is the Yurt in Yosemite Valley?
Not sure what it includes, you should call them and ask them. I would think that they would provide a fire pit and you could buy wood there???? But might need to bring your own blankets.
There is lots to do and see in Yosemite Valley but you can also take the FREE shuttle bus down to Mariposa Grove - check it out at their website. It would be an all day trip but the trees there are AMAZING!!! Once at Mariposa Grove you can pay for a guided tour - it's so worth it especially since you are pregnant. It's a tractor pulling a huge trailer thing with bench seats that drives up and around thru the grove and narrates the whole thing too!

First, it will be very cold at night so make sure you have layers. Secondly, please follow the instructions regarding bears. All food and toiletries must go in the bear canister/box. I'm not sure if they are already hibernating, but if not, they could break into your car etc.

I usually check out REI's checklist since it is so thorough. Mosquito repelent etc

Have fun!!!

I haven't been there but do camp. Last time, we forgot dish soap and cleaning wipes (useful for having a 4 year old with us). Luckily, others brought these.
For snacks we bring crackers, chips, energy bars, fruit, and string cheese, nothing too unusual.
