Hello Ladies,

I need some help. I'm looking for any information on The Children's Courtyard and Emerson Academy. I have a wonderful little girl who loves to learn but my husband and I are not sure we have her in the right preschool. We've had some issues and are looking at maybe switching her to some where else. I'd love to hear from any one about the good and bad of these two school. I'm looking for some place that's going to teach her the basics, i.e. numbers, letters, colors, shapes as well as the creative arts. It seems that all she does at her current school is art projects and I'm teaching her the basics which is fine but then why am I paying alot of money for an art class? Anyway, any information I can get from everyone will help me make the best choice I can for my little girl. Thank You all!!

What can I do next?

Hi A.! I live down the street from both schools and my children attended Emerson for a while. The school was opened by 2 educators who work with special needs children - MR, autism, developmental delays, etc. I found it wasn't the right fit for my children who didn't fall in those categories. I found my children (ages 3 and now 6) began having behavior problems because of the disruptions in the room. If your children have any special needs, Emerson might be the right place. If not, I would look at Children's Courtyard, which is a wonderful company. I don't know much about the Goddard School, which is also down the street. The sign out front says they have some special deals right now. Good luck!

When trying to find quality care for my son who is now 18 months old, I looked at many schools, some church based and some publically or privately owned. One of the schools I looked at was Children's Courtyard and I just didn't get that warm feeling and their rates were higher than were my child currently attends school (Stepping Stone School). I didn't look at the Emerson Academy because it's the opposite direction I go to work. I find the staff at my son's school to be caring and nurturing and it's the best value for our hard-earned dollar that I found. I did look at other church based centers which were cheaper, but I didn't feel the educational aspect and didn't know if going to a school where the religious believes are different than my own would cause issues in the future. Eventually, I chose a school where there was a warm, nurturing feeling, the price was acceptable, the location was good for our family, and had a smart atmosphere ready to teach my child as he grows.

Good luck with your search!

I always advice any friend who is in search of a daycare/school, to visit www.txchildcaresearch.org. Since daycare/schools are regulated and inspected, this site will allow you to see if there were any issues at these schools. In the past, I have always used it when trying to decide on a school for our boys. Good luck!!

My little boy went to the childrens courtyard on Jazz St for about a year. He was a little older at the time, in what they call there Jr Pre K class. I liked that they had themed books and focused on one theme at a time, like one month it would be transportation.
I didn't really see much development in the other areas such as numbers, shapes, and letters. Maybe in the younger class they do. He even seemed to forget some of the shapes he knew because they were not in their curriculum. I also wished they'd focused on writing letters or letter sounds, since by this point he know the alphabet. I guess it is a in between class and they probably did more of that in the Pre-K class. They had a lot of turn over in the staff as well which had a negative impact on our experience there.
I have not actually had any experience with them but I've heard the Goddard School is excellent as far as curriculum.
Good Luck and I hope this helps a little, and you get more responses!
