Need Information on Breastfeeding Classes, Support Etc.

Relactating is not easy - you did an awsome thing for your child.

As a lactation consultant I often meet with mothers or parents prenatally to discuss questions and concerns.

Most books have flaws - some of that is the bias of the auther, some due to editors or publishers, some just due to the ever changing reseach that is available. Know that what you read may not be the most current, the most accurate. That said, Cloe Fisher's book is good, Jack Newman's book is good. Those would probably be my first choice.

I was in the same situation like you, whn my daughter was born, and so like you for next time i also did try everything before. The thing that really helped my son breastfeed the 2nd time was a very good lactation consultant. she comes home and spends some good time with you. i really liked her and could breastfeed with her help.Let me know if you want to know her number.

Congratulations on relactating with your first child, that's not an easy task! Have you tried La Leche League for support and access to lactation consultants? Also, not sure where you live but a number of hospitals in Chicago offer breastfeeding classes as does Sweet Pea Yoga Studio and Birthways. Good luck!

Hello,

I had problems breastfeeding and the only thing that helped, other than talking to many supportive friends, was my local La Leche League. The group leaders want to help in anyway they can. The meetings are free and there are other moms who can give advice from personal exerpiences. I bought books, but they can be so misleading by making it sound so easy when sometimes it isn't. I had a lactation consultant come to the house when we brought her home, but she was expensive and couldn't really help unless I paid her for another appt. (frustrating!) I have also heard of a group called The Art of Breastfeeding, but again I don't have on opinion on them All I can say is go to laleacheleague.org and find a group near you. Start going to meetings now and get your resources in place. They will welcome you. Good luck
