Need Info on TriCare Benefits for Individual and Marriage Counseling

2 of my kids see a therapist off base, and we have no co-pays or anything. All you need to do is either pick out a therapist and call TriCare and let them know who you'll be going to, or when you call to get approval for therapy, ask for a list of therapists. You can also check out TriCare.mil online and should be able to get a list of therapists that way. It's a pretty easy process, and TriCare hasn't given us any grief at all about it :)

My husband who is active duty Air Force says that the Tricare Prime has started a deal where you can just go down to any counsellor without notifying the military or Tricare and the office will bill Tricare for the service. Just to make sure that it works that way I would, if I was you, contact Tricare and ask them first!!

They have supposedly done this because there were too many military members and family members that needed help, but would not go because they felt uncomfortable going to the base/post counsellor. They were concerned that it would come back and "bite them" if anyone from work or friends would see them go there. Today it seems like 50% or more of the military is seen by a counsellor for one reason or another, so there should be no fear for being seen, but I guess the fear is still there. Good luck!

you can try the tricare website and see if they have any explanation of benefits and what they would or would not cover. or you can call their 800 number and talk to a customer service rep, they should be able to explain it to you. good luck

I don't know how it works in the states, but while we were overseas, My husband and I had Marriage counselling. It was absoutely free. He had some indivividual counselling also. We never paid for anything.
