My 9 year old son will be going away to camp for a week, next week. This will be his first time going away to camp.
We can make and bring 'care packages' for our camper, and we can specify which days we want the car packages to be given to the camper.
I was looking for ideas of what to include in my son's care packages.
I will be emailing him everyday and the grandparents will mail him letters so that part is taken care of.

Head lamp (good for finding the bathroom at night), mints if allowed (my kids love tic tacs), notebook and pens, binoculars
I would check with the camp before sending any food. Any of the camps my kids have gone to do not allow food brought in because allergies or because they don't want to attract wild animals to the cabins.
I think the glow sticks would be fun. My guys would appreciate bottled water (camp water is often kind of yucky) and gum.
I would send snacks/candy/treats and comics maybe?
Please check on the guidelines for what the camp will allow and also the best way to send the package. You might want to send some joke books, puzzles for quiet time, glow sticks, a disposable camera, wet wipes. Check camp policy on food and candy.
Laffy Taffy (jokes and candy all in one), jerky, licorice, tootsie pops or tootsie rolls etc. if they allow food. Photos, postcard or memoir of home (if it's across state lines or anything), a small stuffed animal with a note attached of a favorite phrase or what you say before bed. A cool new pen and small journal. I would only send one package if you're emailing him everyday...all the best
Refrain from pictures of family. Good way to make him homesick. Some fun things like Laurie suggested. Would not send food.
Mad Libs, Glow sticks or necklaces, Joke book, Crazy socks,
Funny band aides.. Temporary tattoos (if they allow them), Funny tshirt, hat, Fig Newtons, if they allow cookies.

a clean washcloth

puzzle book (on rainy stormy days they spend some time in the cabins)

pocket sized tube of sunblock
floppy hat
pocket sized flashlight
a travel game like sorry or something like that that he can play with others
checkers that are inside a zip / or buckled case so pieces don't get lost.
preaddressed stamped postcard to write to you
address book so he can write down friends email / address's

Pretzels (a lot of kids have nut allergies so I wouldn't send those)
Cut out comics from the paper. Think things to make him laugh.
