Hi mamas!
My son will be 10 months next week. He is doing GREAT with “real food”. He’s almost 100% off baby food (we are just using it as a back-up now). We’ve tried a wide range of foods and he’s done really well with just about everything. I’d like to keep trying new foods, but I’m starting to run out of ideas. Here’s a list of everything we’ve tried so far, does anyone have any ideas of other age-appropriate foods we can try? I’m open to just about anything that’s healthy, but I am planning to stay away from all of the no-no foods until 1 year (peanut butter, deli meat, strawberries, egg whites, nuts, fish, chocolate, citrus, honey, etc.). Unfortunately the “feed him whatever you are eating” method doesn’t work for us because both my husband and I are on strict diets and aren’t always eating what would be best for baby (I doubt he’d be a fan of my husband’s protein shakes).

Here’s what we’ve tried:

Apples
Avocado
Bananas
Blueberries
Bread/rolls
Broccoli
Carrots
Cheddar cheese
Cheerios
Chicken
Chickpeas
Cream cheese and apricot jelly sandwich
Gerber’s Puffs, Yogurt Melts, Wagon Wheels and Veggie Crunchies
Green beans
Grilled cheese sandwich
Hamburger
Hard boiled egg (yolk only)
Kiwi
Mango
Meatballs (both beef and turkey)
Pancakes
Pasta
Peaches
Pears
Peas
Portabella
Regular white salad mushrooms
Steak
Sweet potato
Toast (both plain and also with cream cheese)
Turkey
Vanilla ice-cream
Waffles
Watermelon
White potatoes
Yellow squash
Yogurt (YoBaby)
Zucchini

What can I do next?

Wow, you're doing GREAT!!! Other things I'm feeding my daughter is cottage cheese, applesauce (can mix in mashed bananas with the applesauce), apricots, melon (cantaloupe, honey dew), beans (lentils, red beans, black beans).

First I have to say you are extremely lucky your 9 month old will eat so many different foods. Not too many moms I know are that lucky!! You have quite a diverse list. One food item I didn't see listed was cauliflower. I was honestly never a big fan of it but when my kids were younger I would steam cauliflower for them and they liked it and still do (mom still doesn't). Or maybe try asparagus steamed.

Good luck and it is great that you are trying different foods while he is so young because I believe that makes a world of difference for when he gets older and hopefully won't be a picky eater.

I can't remember when we started it, but whole grain pretzels were one of my boys' favorites. I also made my own pancakes out of baby cereal:
Dry Ingredients - 1/2 c flour, 3/4 c dry barley or oatmeal cereal, 1/2 t salt, 1 T baking powder, 1T sugar
Wet ingredients - 1 c milk, 1 beaten egg, 2T oil
I would pre-mix the wet and dry so that I could whip up a batch a few mornings each week. Hope this helps~

Hi,
First off though, your son is doing GREAT to be eating such a wide variety of healthy foods at that age! Here's a veggie that a lot of people seem unfamiliar with, yet it's readily available in most stores: edamame. My girls LOVE it steamed! You can buy it in the pods or shelled, usu. in the freezer of fresh veg. section. It's worth a shot, as it's loaded with protein. Another idea is low-salt soup, with the broth drained out. I put the contents of the soup in a shallow bowl and let them pick it up with fingers.
-Butternut squash & acorn squash, cubed.
-Hummus spread on small chunks of bread.
-Veggie burgers, cut up.(We're not vegetarian, but my girls loved these at that age, and continue to eat them at 3 & 22m)
-Tofu
-black or white beans
-corn niblets
-chopped spinach
-all beef, nitrate free hotdogs, cut small(maybe not healthy, but they do love them)
-Kix cereal

Just some additional things my kids ate at or around that age.

Best wishes!

If he's eating all that at his age, I'd say you're doing great and try not to sweat it. You've got him off to a great start.

Fish, esp salmon, is highly recommended for babies. It is also recommended that you try a milk white fish first, like cod mixed with potatoes and/or veggies.

Looks like he is getting a varied and healthy diet! Pastina and different shaped pastas with or without different sauces might be interesting for him to try. Various cheeses, any soft, chunky veggie, various dipping sauces for the chicken pieces....Keep up the good work! Frozen Yogurt?

when my girls were little, i made all their food myself. http://www.wholesomebabyfood.com/ was a great source of info!!!!!! they have alls sorts of recipes!

one I see is right on the first page of the website... pumpkin! also, i've made different flavors of pancakes... pumpkin, blueberry, banana, etc.

how about spinich? I have a cookbook called the Sneaky Chef... and she adds all sorts of purees to her recipes (you can find them online too)... one of my favorites is the "Purple Puree", which is blueberries and spinach, and i add that to pancake mix... my daughters LOVE it!!!! there's also a "white puree" which is cauliflour and zuchinni, and I add that to mac and cheese.

also, how about mandarin oranges?

Sounds like you are pretty much giving everything possible at this point! :) If you think he would like it, you could try letting him use a spoon while you are feeding him something mushy, like mashed potatoes. My son is 13mo, and he loves practicing with a spoon! Yours may be a little young yet, but there's no harm in shaking it up a little!
You could try scrambled egg yolk, not sure if he would like it, but that's about all I can think of! Maybe mac and cheese if he hasn't had that yet.

Hi there! Have you tried and herbs or seasonings? My daughter (17 mos) loves her bananas with cinnamon. I just switch it up. Some days with, some days without. Also she has pasta with a little butter and parm pratically every night for dinner (I know - but she LOVES it!) and I change it up just by different noodle shapes and dried herbs. One night a little basil, one night a little black pepper, one night a litte oregano. I really think that little bit of difference really mixes it up for her. Also, the craziest thing I can't believe she loves - okra. I just heat up a bunch in some spaghetti sauce. Some times I mix pasta in but she will pick thru the pasta to eat all the okra first :) And it freezes really well too. I'll heat up sauce and some handfulls of frozen sliced okra then spoon it into small bowls and pop them in the freezer so I always have some ready to go. Whole wheat bagels. Plain, with cream cheese or butter. Toasted or not - she loves them all.
I haven't tried mushrooms yet! Do you sautee them first? Or just slice them up and give them to him raw?
