Need Ideas for Fun Day with Son

I took off the 28th so I could spend the day with my 7 year old son (he will be on spring break) and I wanted to do something really special and fun. We never get to do things alone (without my daughter) and I thought it would be nice for him to get to have some "mom" time. I am looking for ideas on where we could go or what we could do.

What can I do next?

I found Minneapolis's site that lists "150" things to do. The link is for family time and lists the least expensive sites. It looks like a great site to visit.

With my son, just keeping it simple works with him. Taking him to the park, then out to eat is great mommy time.

Mall of America is always fun, the new park will be complete and the rides are fun-my kids couldn't stop smiling the whole time! (we went yesterday). 2 people would be perfect for sharing seats and he's bound to be tall enough to get on all of the rides.
Good luck!

I have a 3 1/2 year old girl who loves doing Art projects. We usually go to the Dollar Store and load up on stickers, glitter glue, card stock paper, etc. The art projects are alot of fun, inexpensive and I find that my 3 1/2 year old is so proud of what she has done.

My daughter is 6.5 and we do fun days all the time. She's an only child and I'm a single mom so I it's just us alot. Here's some of our favorite things to do.

Indoor waterpark either Grand Rios or Water Park of America

Edinborough Indoor Park

Movie

Rollerskating

SnowTubing

Mini-Golf

Bowling

Chuckie Cheese

Science or Children's Museum

Ride the lightrail downtown and go to a restaurant dwntwn

(Indoor waterpark is by far my daughter's favorite choice, and at 6 or 7 years old they're finally big enough to do most of the things there, my daughter did almost everything)

How about the zoo, either Como Zoo or Minnesota Zoo. Or maybe take him to a movie, Horton Hears A Hoo opens this Friday.

Grand Slam in Eagan has been a hit with my son. You can play minigolf, try laser tag, and play the arcade. It's got batting cages too if he likes that sort of thing (but that wasn't my son's choice at 8 - too hard, he'd say.) They have pizza there, too. I think just spending some of the day "hangin' out" is also really good. He's getting older, and having the opportunity to just talk to mom is a good thing. He might even like being at home for part of the day and baking cookies with you and getting the first one, etc. might be a nice change. Just going for a walk around the neighborhood, or you watching him do something he's good at (art, music, riding his bike, skateboarding, etc.) would be nice for his ego and mom memories. Good luck. Whatever you do, it will be nice. Do take a picture.

There's a great store at the Mall of AMerica called "Ridemakerz" Where you can build your own car. You pick out the body, wheels, hubcaps, etc. Then you go to a station where you're the "pit crew" and put it together. It does get expensive though - expect to spend at least $30.00.

Also, every first saturday of each month the Home Depot has a kid's project that you can come build like bird houses or wood cars etc. That is free but call your nearest home depot for times and what they will be building because each store can be different.

There's always the zoo and the children's museum. If the weather is nice, you can take him to a playground, out for ice cream, etc... I like the movie idea, too. If the weather doesn't cooperate, you could do something like laser tag, paintball, or one of the other places. Maybe do something that your daughter is really too young for?

I would ask your son what he wants to do! You might give him some ideas, and let him know that you might have to say no because something is too expensive. My son, who is 6, just LOVES the thought of being able to plan a whole day with me, and it often involves things that aren't really that big of a deal - baking, crafts, or lunch at a local restaurant.

I read the response about Grand Slam in Eagan - it was an awesome place, but I don't think it's there anymore! They tore down the mall it was in.
