Need Ideas for First Birthday Presents.

Hi Moms! My third child is having his first birthday on May 2nd and I need ideas for a gift that I can add on to over the years. For example, my daughter has the Precious Moments Birthday Train set where she gets a new animal to add to the train with her birthday number on it for each year. My mother wants to get both my boys something along those lines, but not Precious Moments; I think she wants something more "boyish." Anyone have any ideas as to what would be a good gift that can be added onto as the years pass? Alos, what did you give your child for the first birthday? Thanks!

What can I do next?

What about a normal train set where a piece can be added every year. I am not sure where to find them but the Internet might help. Wood trains too would be a good idea. They can be decorated/painted when they get older.

How about a Brio Train Set. You can start with a starter pack and add accessories or more track over the years.

My SIL started my son on these beautiful train cars when he was a baby - he's now 8 and has quite a few as she started giving them for Christmas too. Anyway, she got them through a website at woodentoy.com. They have other types of wooden toys too. Please take a look. They are so nice!

PLANT A TREE! It grows every year, along with your little boy. May is Arbor Month in Minnesota--your boy is lucky to have such a nice month for birthdays.

I don't have an idea for an "add on gift" but for my son's 1st b-day we bought him a wagon. You may have one already, with three kids, but if you don't it's a great gift that he will play with for many years. Since they won't remember their first b-day, I like the idea of getting more meaningful and long lasting toys. Good luck, and Congratulations on graduating!
