Hi! My daughter is having her first birhtday party this weekend at our house. There will be about 10-12 children between the ages of 1 and 5 - most are around 2-3. I need some activities to do with them that would be fun, but are not so structured that they lose attention. Please share any suggestions.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you all! We had such a fun party. I have a small house and so wanted the guests to spread out. I made the kids room the art and drama room - I taped butcher paper on the floor and left out washable crayons. I made a playdough table in there and also turned a carseat box into a "tv" for kids to do their own shows. I made my living room the transportation room, with cars, trains, blocks and an activity rug. My other living room was the baby room with lots of baby toys, and I had a cookie decorating station set up in the kitchen. I also made fun snacks like ants on a log, fruit skewers, and kid sushi.

Fun party. Thanks for the ideas. :)

I wouldn't really do any activities. I would just make sure you have lots of toys available! I started doing activities at the 2nd b-day party and even then it was hard. If you really want something I would go with tattoos, those are always a hit! You can put out sponges and little bowls of water and then you don't have to really monitor it too much. Most parents will help their kids. Other than that I would try and do something that goes with your theme. Maybe you can find some of those foam crafts that come in kits or just simply put out those foam stickers and some paper. Most kids like that stuff. If you don't have a theme for the party you could always put out some Valentine's stuff for crafts. Bubbles was also a great idea, along with sidewalk chalk. Not sure what winter looks like in Dallas, but those are always great activities!

I wouldn't plan on doing too much - they'll probably just want to play with the baby toys. But, you could do freeze dance. You could decorate cookies. You could get paper crowns and have them color. If you can go outside, get a whole bunch of bubbles and let them blow bubbles. Blow up lots of balloons and let them bat them around, inside or out.

Happy birthday to your little one!
