Hello mamas,

My 8-year old sons basketball is having an end of the season party. The coach wants to have a little snack party. The girls are bring drinks and the boys are to bring the snacks. I am fresh out of cool or cute ideas. The coach is making cupcakes with little basketballs on top...Help! I don't wanna do anything that will look like I am copying her idea but I want to do something fun too. Any ideas? Thanks in advance for your help.

What can I do next?

You could make homemade granola bars (there are some great recipes on www.allrecipes.com). Cut them and use icing to write their names, numbers, mascot or team name on them. Since there is already a sweet snack, maybe something sweet (but at least a little healthier) would be a good idea. ?

I saw some really cute ideas already mentioned that I think I might use when my kiddos get a little older. What a great site! You can also serve some snacks that would usually be at a basketball game like nachos, hot dogs, those big soft pretzels, beer (just kidding). You could have dips to "dunk" chips or veggies in. We always had a bunch of fruit and I loved the basketball orange peel bowl idea! You could always serve anything you chose on basketball plates/bowls.

Have a great time!

Roll out cookie dough (either bought or home-made. Make a pattern out of cardboard of a basketball shirt (the team uniform), If your uniforms are colored, then use a little bit of food coloring and tent the dough. With a tube of cake iceing write each players number or name on a shirt. They won't bake out perfect, but they'll be OK for 8 year olds.

"Pom poms and megaphones" to cheer on the team for the year = cheese puffs chips and Bugles chips

Slam dunk slurpies (frozen fruit drinks)

Take String Twizzlers (the kind you can pull apart!) Give each kid a paper plate or towel to work on. Have the kids shape the Twizzler strips into a Basketball Net (laying it flat, of course... not 3D) OR you could make them to take and have the kids use Sour Straws to write their name across the net.

"Alley Oop Brownies!"
Brownies baked in small muffin tins... press down in the center about 1/2 way through baking to make a cup (basket!)Fill with a round candy (or even pudding)

Hope these are helpful. Have fun!

My daughter's soccer team has an end of season party every season. One really cute thing that my daughter got one time was a rice crispy treat decorated like a soccer ball. It wasn't round like a popcorn ball but more flat like an ice cream sandwich. Maybe you could do something similar but use frosting to make it look like a basketball?? Also sugar cookies decorated like basketballs would be a cute snack. I've discovered that more and more kids like dried fruit/trail mix--just watch out for the nuts--but maybe you could find a basketball type baggie and give each kid their own trail mix? It would be a great reminder for a healthy snack option for during their games as well!

Good luck!

In the past I have used Sugar Mamma's decorative cookies for a snack. It's the type of cookie that comes on a cookie bouquet and each cookie is decorated like a basketball and individually wrapped. She (Mindy Bernard) can also put the name of each player on their cookie. Her email is ____@____.com.

Dependent upon the amount of time you have before the party, you can order fruit roll ups with a personalized design on them. Here is the website. http://www.myfruitrollups.com/default.aspx

Hope this helps and have fun at the party. These are such fun times to enjoy in your kids lives.

here are just a few i can think of so i wish you the best just remember to have fun..:)

1. basketball shaped decorated cookies.
2. container store or craft store find basketball shaped containers or party boxes with basketballs on them fill with mix candies, chex you name it. Easy to fill, easy to clean up and go.
3. orange cups, place basketball stickers all over the cups. Fill with cheese balls,or anything round shaped like a basket ball, orange colored candies. Cover with clear Cellophane or colored I cant remember if they sale orange, but you might find something orange in tissue paper and wrap it that way at the craft store. And tie with orange ribbon and put a crazy straw in the center of your not. You might find even pencils with basketball toppers.
4. Here is one it is a little more tricker and you would need to make sure it stayed cold. You can get either or make them. Cookie Ice-creams and pipe on each of their basketball jersey # or you can make sugar cookies add a littel orange food color and have orange cookies with your icecream choice and do it the same. You can use those edable food markers and draw lines on the cookie like a basketball.
5. Dollar stores find sports water bottles fill with anything write thier jersey # with puff paint. You can find anycolor in water bottles or use team colors. Great for feeling with cheese balls Ive use this one before.
Well I hope that helped. Good luck!

Rats. I see someone already beat me to my best idea, or at least a very similar idea. I was going to suggest getting some plain Dixie type cups, drawing lines on the cups to make them look like hoops, and then filling them with Cheetos balls. (Of course melon balls would be healthier.)

One of kids' favorite activities is being given sugar cookies they can decorate themselves. I was thinking you could bring round sugar cookies with orange and black icing. The kids can decorate their own basketball cookie and eat it.

I like to make ogange bowls of fruit. You make fruit salad and cut the orange into two halves, hollow them out and use each half serves as the bowl for the fruit salad. You could use a perminate marker to draw basketball lines on the orange to make them look more like basketballs. It will look something like this only cut straight across.

Cantalope balls would be cute too.
Rice crispy balls rolled in orange sugar with black licorice, or iceing lines.
Round sandwiches with black food coloring lines (they sell food coloring pens at party stores)
Basketball meatballs
Round orange jello jigglers
Basketball cookies.
Basketball pizza with pepperoni or olive lines- Papa murphies might do this for you.
Or if they have a mascot, you could taylor the snack to the mascot instead of just basketballs.
Hope this helps, have fun.

going with the basketball theme: bagel pizzas or mini bagel bites, peanut butter sandwiches cut into circles (use a big circle cookie cutter) but at the end of the day.... 8 year olds aren't going to notice or appreciate all the work that making a sandwich or pizza look like a basketball... you would better off (and most popular) by bringing your son's favorite snack foods.

good luck.
blessings,
stacy
