I use Mary Kay Timewise. I promise I'm not a MK consultant but I love this and it works wonderfully. I'm not positive thats its hypoallergenic buti think I remember reading it is. Anyway, something to look into. www.marykay.com
I'm wondering whether anyone can recommend a really gentle, hypo-allergenic brand of cosmetics as well as a facewash. I've recently started getting patches of what looks like eczema on my eylids, and I'm wondering whether I'm having an allergic reaction to what I'm putting on my face, which is essentially moisturizer, foundation, (I avoid the eyelids, but some probably gets on there anyway) blush, and, at night, a facewash. I don't wear eyeshadow, liner, or mascara. I'll be scheduling a physical soon and will discuss this with the doctor, but I'm assuming that he's going to suggest that I change the products I'm using, and I don't want to spend a fortune in trying to find something that works. Please help!
My goodness, I can't thank you all enough. It's wonderful to be able to ask so many caring women for advice. I'm definitely going to check into Cetaphil cleanser and some of the cosmetic brands mentioned. I'm also heading to the dermatologist to figure out what the problem is, as Gillian mentioned.

I had that eczema like thing on my eyelid too. Go to the dermatologist now before it gets worse. They will give you a little cream to put on. They should be able to tell you if it is makeup related or not. I don't wear makeup but still got it. There wasn't really a reason and I didn't have to change anything. They will recommend cetaphil for facewash though, just because they are dermatologists. :)
For a facewash I use cetaphil cleanser, there are even generics out there at most grocery and drug stores. The bottle lasts a long time and it is gentle enough to be used on babies. It works great for me and I even saw it on one of those beauty spots on tv where they were talking about great cleansers. If you don't want to spend tons of money on a name brand cleanser this is a great option.
J F,
I have really sensitive skin myself and have also been doing a lot of research in more natural and organic products. I switched to facial cleansing/moisturizing products made by a company called MiEssence (www.mionegroup.com). I am amazed at the difference in my skin. I have been using it for about 4 months and have never gotten so many compliments. They have a special line just for sensitive skin, it's called "soothing" and it comes with a cleanser, skin conditioner, and lotion. It is around $100.00 for the set, but it does not take much and has lasted 4 months and that it using it morning and night.(You can also get a trial size set for around $35.00). I have also been using the "Rejuvenessence Facial Serum" and that has really helped my incredibly dry skin. I also use their mascara as it is free from all the chemicals that they cram into the stuff you get at the stores which may help you out as well. I also just read something about using organic olive oil for very dry skin and eczema (even on the face as it is not supposed to clog your pores), I have actually been using it as a daily moisturizer on my body and have never had softer skin! That is just something else you may want to look into. As for make-up I use mineral make-up by a company on line called Rejuva Minerals (rejuvaminerals.com). They do not micronize their minerals which is what makes them very different from other mineral make-up companies, also they have make-up that is titanium dioxide and mica free (I guess there are a lot of women who are actually allergic to titanium dioxide, which is in a lot of make-up) and there are no harsh chemicals/preservatives/animal by-products in their make-up either. They also have trial size products so you don't have to spend a fortune just to try them out. I have had great luck with these things! Check them out on-line for yourself and see what you think! I think a lot of us end up with sensitive skin because of all the chemicals in everything, not necessarily because we suddenly develop allergies! I wish you the best of luck and feel free to contact me if you have any questions!
Sincerely
Jenn
I haven't read the posts, so I don't know how many people have recommended it, but Arbonne's stuff is awesome!
I need hypo-allerginic stuff also and most companies do the bare minimum to claim hypo-allergenic status; Arbonne tries to get it as close to "no reaction" as possible. As a very allergic person, myself, I have only had an allergic reaction to one Arbonne product and that was the tanner. I can even wear the mascarra for a 10 hour work day, so it's on for over 12 hours with commute time! No more goopy eyes!
If your interested, check out Arbonne.com and you can run a search with your zip code to find a local consultant or you can message me and I can hook you up with mine.
Sounds like you could be allergic to an ingredient in your products. I've seen it before with a few of my customers as I'm a consultant with Mary Kay. Give me a call if you'd like more information. All of our products are non-comedogenic (which is even better than hypo-allergenic) and have a 100% satisfaction guarantee. ###-###-#### S.
Hey JF,
May I suggest the Neutrogena products for facewashes. They are hypo-allergenic as well as very affordable. They have several different kinds of face washes as well, so as to fit your skin type. As for make up, I would suggest a non liquid type foundation, such as Bare Essentials, or Mineral Silk. Both can be ordered online, I use the Mineral Silk because it's more affordable. Both these products cover very well, and don't cause skin problems or breakouts. But if none of these options work for you, I would just use Baby wash for your cleanser, and baby lotion for your moisturizer, both those are formulated for a baby's skin and won't hurt yours either. Hope this helps.

I sell Mia Bella candles and more--including a natural bar soap made with soy. I don't personally use the soap on my face, just my body, but I have read testimonials of people who use it on their face and love it. I do know that it is very moisturizing on the body. The company also just came out with some all natural mineral makeup--which I hear is great for sensitive skin. I just ordered some and used it yesterday for the first time and loved it! I have semi-sensitive skin and it felt great all day long. You can visit my website at www.mandyscandles.scent-team.com and contact me from there if you're interested.
Almay and Neutrogena are hypo-allergenic products and provide a cosmetics as well as skin care products.
I have very sensitive skin and I use Mary Kay's velocity moisturizer on my face. I can't use their regular one because it has spf 15 in it and that bothers my face. I have also tried samples of glimpse and Arbonne and those seem to work really well they are just pricey. as a facewash i use cetaphil. their lotion is great too.
Hi JF,
Well, I sympathize as I found myself in the same boat years ago. Once upon a time when I could afford it, I used the Frances Denney line of make-up (Macy's if they still carry it). However, money being tight for everyone, I now rely on Almay, I like their make-up selection and its reasonably priced. As for a facewash, I don't go with any specialty types as I simple can't A) afford it or B) wear it, so I use one of two things, Ivory soap or Dove Sensitive skin (unscented) soap. Works for me. Good luck! (As for the eye rash..whatever you want to call it, I had to use an antibiotic cream to clear it up and go make-up free for a month..ACK! scary! lol)
I had a similar problem some years ago, and it turns out that the ducts to my eyelashes were clogging up. The doc recommended washing my eye area with a washcloth and baby shampoo twice a day. It worked wonders to clear up the irritation on my eyelids. You can use soap, but the baby shampoo doesn't sting as much if you get it in your eyes.
I love the Burt's Bees line of cosmetics. They are not too pricey if you compare them to name brand, department store items. If, however, you don't put any eyeshadow on, it seems unlikely that your cosmetics are causing your problem.
Good luck, and I hope you find something that helps clear things up!
I'm in love with the Mary Kay line. I used to have a break out problem which was solved by using the Mary Kay skin cleanser and moisturizer. They also have a great mineral foundation excellent for the skin. All their products are guaranteed money back if not satisfied. You can get free samples from any representative to try with out having to buy first. I also sell it.
As hard as it is, you will have to still go by trial and error. I used to sell cosmetics, and I remember a lot of people would go for Clinique because it is supposed to be good for those with sensitive skin. It was great for some, but there were others that had problems. In otherwords, it is an individual thing. There is nothing in those products that SOMEone won't be allergic to! That being said, there are some lines of skin care that eliminate the use of your more commom allergens, and they do seem to have a higher success rate for many. I mentioned Clinique, but in the grocery and drug stores there are brands such as Almay and Neutrogena that are supposed to be decent as well. Personally, I find that Cetaphil is one of the gentlest cleansers out there, and if you can find a store brand equivalent they are generally as good, and less expensive. I know it can be expensive to experiment, but it's your best bet. It also might be worth it to try Shaklee products. They are supposed to have more natural ingredients. Even you health food stores carry lots of natural products. Maybe you could get some samples from some places. Good luck!
I use Arbonne cleansing products and Mia Bella Beauty makeup. I don't have allergic reactions to them and both are natural product lines. Hope that helps!
Make it a GREAT day!

I have sensitive eye too!! Same thing happened to my eyelids about 3 mo ago.. I use La Roche Posay ( it is sold at dr's offices.. just look them up on line and get physician locator.
www.laroche-posay.us )
Ask for the Toulerine cleanser and moisturizers.. they are the best!
I have found something I love. I dont have any skin issues so not sure it will be perfect for you. However, it is all natural. It is sold at Safeway and called C for Carrots. That is the brand but the products ar a play on words like C for Cucumbers. I truly love it and my skin feels and looks great. It is hypo-alergenic i believe. Anyway, worth checking out.
Arbonne is awesome...check it out and let me know if you want to sign up to get the discount. I used to sell it!

Have you heard of bare escentuals? It is HANDS DOWN the best makeup out there right now. It covers my aunt's roscacia, and my acne scars without looking cakey. They also have a GREAT eyemakeup line, and it's all hypo-allergenic, and natural. bareescentuals.com is their website. I'm not trying to sell you a product here, no ulterior motives, I'm just so impressed with them!
I would suggest that you get a water softener for any skin problems. My daughter was in Phoenix for a couple of weeks and she came back complaining about how the hard water gave her all kinds of skin problems. All of my kids have eczema that went away after we got a water softener. I would think that you are probably getting a lot of hard water since you are in Colorado. Also another option for you may be to get some Probiotics from the health food store.
