We have decided to give our 9 & 11 year old nieces a "shopping spree" with me for Christmas. I'm going to take them shopping on the 26th. We have no idea what to get them, and their getting to that age where they really need to pick it out themselves.

I would really like to give them a card with a cutesie poem on it to let them know what we're doing. Any ideas?

What can I do next?

In the card, I would include a "gift certificate" - you can probably create one on microsoft word and they may even have templates. That way, you can write whatever you want in the card. The gift certificate would explain the present AND set the $ limit.

Since Santa thought you were super sweet,
This year he told us we should treat,
You two to something you would like,
Like books or toys or games or bikes.

To the toy store we will go,
What you will pick, I do not know,
It is your choice of what to buy,
So think real fast, 'cause time will fly!

Let's go shop and have some fun
Because I love you, little one!

I don't know, I just made more coffee, that's all I've got ;)

If you look under the tree
You will somethings missing from me
Now, please don't think me rude
It's time to get into a shopping mood

Start thinking, you've got time
To get a present on auntie's dime
Clothes, or shoes, or perhaps a doll
Maybe something at the mall

I'll pick you up after Christmas day.
We'll get in the car and on our way!
We'll have laughs and some fun
We won't stop till we're done.

There's only one thing left to say
Merry Christmas, aunties way.

You need a clever way to add a dollar limit. I don't know your nieces but shopping spree to some kids may be more than you want to spend. What I mean is when they envision as how much they will spend it may be higher than what you want to spend and it sucks when you do something super cool only to get that, this is it? look.

With a limit they can limit their dreaming and have a great time.

Hope that makes sense.

Rachel: can you help me with wording an I.O.U./g.c. type thing?? My stepdaughter wanted $ for Christmas to put toward and swim camp she wants to attend in June. We are giving her $250 for it. Any ideas how to do something cute for her??
