I would skip the nap. Thats what we had to do.

The best book that helped me with that problem was Healthy Sleep Happy Child. I took what advice I felt comfortable with and applied it, the book was really informative and you can get away with reading the first chapter then looking for his age range and go to that info.

Try the Good Night, Sleep Tight The Sleep Lady's gentle guide to helping your child go to sleep, stay asleep and wake up happy By: Kim West. It is a great book and it helped me with my first and second child. Good Luck.

My two kids went through the same thing about that age. I have a 2.5 year old now who has always been a great sleeper but just recently it has been harder and harder to get him down for a nap, just like what you are going through. It takes me so long to get him to sleep I sometimes wonder if it is worth it. For my kids, they seem to need less sleep about that age. Sometimes if we haven't had a very energetic morning, my two year old just isn't tired enough to fall asleep, even though he probably still needs a nap. We try to go outside and do other things in the morning that would help him expend his energy, that sometimes helps. Putting him down a little later in the afternoon sometimes helps too. My older child stopped napping when she was close to 3. Since she was still tired I would just put her down for an earlier bedtime so she still would get the sleep she needed.
Good luck to you. I know nap time is a cherished part of they day.

My advice would be to stop the naps. My 2 year old has stopped taking naps because it just makes bedtime a 2 hour process minimum. I think some kids just don't need naps anymore at this age unless they have hit a growing spurt.
