My 5 yr old daughter has red splotches on her legs and we can't figure out why. They are about the size of a pea, unless she scratches them and they'll get bigger. I'll put Benedryo cream on them which helps stop the itch and they go away after a few days. They are just red, no white center or anything. They aren't bumps, no raised area, just red spotches. We can't figure out what they are or where they come from. She hasn't been outside playing, no new laundry detergent, no new foods and no one else in the house gets them. I'd say she gets these things maybe once once every 4-6 wks. Any ideas?

I bet it's just a form of dermatitis (sp?). If the OTC cortisone cream doesn't work her doc can prescribe a stronger cortisone cream or even a steroid cream to help it go away.
It sounds like an allegic reaction to something. It may not be anything 'new' but it may just cycle every 4-6 weeks. We don't realize all of the toxins that are in our 'everyday' products that we use in our home. Like Johnson's baby shampoo, it has a toxin called formaldehyde which is a carcinogen (they are known to cause cancer, dermatisis; is an irritant to the skin eyes and mucous membranes) I have found products that not only are non-toxic are fabulous! I have not read the other responses but my daughter gets this sometimes from going in and out of pools. We used Aquaphor and have had great results. Sometimes I put Aquaphor on with a band aid and all is better. Put it on at night before bed, and during the day to spot treat if needed. you will see results in 2 days.
It could be hives. My son used to get them. It turned out it was an allergy to the fabric softener I was using. Even though we had been using the same one since he was born some time around age 2 or so he started to get the hives. I would suggest seeing your doctor to make sure it isn't something more serious and then start making small changes to things like the laundry soap, fabric softener and bath soap. HTH

Recommend seeing your pediatrition though as it should be diagnosed.
However, we don't remember her having a beginning illness or any symptoms but the spots and some itchiness. They would reoccur off and on for many months, particularly after sports (running in particular). I thought I remembered that they had another name for it that included the word "red."
My spotty memory also recalls using Dial soap in the bathtub for a reoccuring rash and it worked. (A nurse suggested it.) Was it this? Not sure but I can't remember her having any other reoccuring skin issue.
Sounds like an allergy to me. Is she really irritated by them? fever (or just elevated temp)? Any other things that happen at the same time? I would pay close attention, the next time it happens, to everything she was doing just before they show up. You could try a dose of benadryl(ask your Dr.) just after and see if it helps. If it does, it is almost certainly an allergy, then you just have to figure out what the allergy is. Also, I'd take some pictures and show the Dr. the next time you are in...if you aren't too worried about it.
It could be hives or type of allergic rash. When I was a kid, I was allergic to a lot of different types of foods. There was a food dye - red or orange, not sure - that would give me hives, and they started on my legs. They were red splotches and they itched. Your daughter may have developed an allergy to something in the home or that she is eating, and might need allergy testing. The dye that I was allergic to was in a lot of common kid foods - sodas, candy, popcicles - but would still have been difficult to figure out without testing. Good luck!

It could be eczema. The doctor can prescribe a cortizone and/or steroid cream for her. Eczema can't be cured, but there are many medicines now that will help to control it. It is very itchy (especially during hot weather for some). Some people outgrow it. I've had it for 25+ years. It moves around. Can be on arms, legs, head, hands, etc... sometimes they are just dry and scaly, other times they have blisters. Good luck.
Maybe psoriasis or eczema. Try cetaphil cream (in the jar) and see the dr. if they appear infected. I would mention them to the dr. at your next check up for sure.
My daughter has an intolorance to dairy. It started at 3 years old (that we noticed) and has gone thru cycles as far as symptoms go. She started developing red spots on the inner thighs that only lasted a few days. For whatever reason, this is where she breaks out when she eats something that has dairy in it. But, now she also gets a rash around the genital area and rectum. I usually use cortizone cream to resolve issue. Good luck in trying to figure it out. It can be really frustrating. It took me a while to come to the conclusion that her issue was dairy. I took it out of her diet for 1 month and when introduced back in her diet, symptoms came back. Poor baby, there is dairy in everything!!!!!
my daughter had the same thing. i took her to a doctor, it was some sort or infection on the skin. he gave me a sample cream and it went away.
