My dr gave me a trial of a med, I took it 18 days and gained 35 pounds. I have been trying to lose this for over a year now. I am not a big person at all. And it looks horrible on my small frame. I ride my exercise bike and walk but nothing is helping. Any ideas? I even cut caffiene out of my diet. I bought 8 pairs of jeans the month before this happen and cannot wear any of them. I need to lose about 3-4 sizes, Thanks.

What can I do next?

I'm a Personal Wellness Coach and have helped people lose weight the healthy way. I have a client, Jennifer who was a size 20 and now size 8. Another client of mine, Ruth lost 60 inches of unhealthy body fat while taking her meds and has now been able to reduce her med intake.

Hi B.

Just a little background about me: I am a health and fitness professional with 25 years in the industry and hold multiple certifications from highly accredited organizations. I would love to help you with your concerns about your weight. Unfortunately, the most dangerous thing you can do is ask the general puclic about weight loss, especially when your weight gain is from medications which no one knows what they are or why you took them. I work with people from all walks of life, from 5years old to 95 years old and many of them have gained weight from medications, but they weren't all the same meds nor were they all the same conditions. In order to keep your information private and discreet, I would like to invite you to visit my website at www.myfridayfitness.com where you can register for free as a client and I can give you free information, help, exercises and tips without you having to publicly announce your personal conditions and information.

I look forward to hearing from you and helping you reach your goals successfully. Take care,

C.

Get some herbs and get the meds out of your system. I use Dr. Christopher's Formulas.

First use Lower Bowel Formula, then use liver and gall bladder, and the kidney formula as well. The last thing you want to use is Chaparral tea, but don't use it first. The order is important as it goes in reverse of the way the body cleanses. If you were to use Chaparral Tea first, for example, you could damage your liver. Good luck.

Because this weight gain is due to medication and not your eating and exercise, you might consider:
-Ask your doctor for suggestions.
-Go online to see if the company who makes the medication can give any suggestions.
-Ask your doctor if there is an alternative medication/treatment which will work for you but not have the side effects you are experiencing.

Hi B.,
Have you had your thyroid checked? After years of working out 3 days a week & watching what I ate I lost very little. FINALLY one day my OBGYN did check & that was it Hypothyroidism.

If that is it you can work on a medication to fix it. If it is not here are my suggestions. Try replacing 1-2 meals with a high-protein/low-carb protein bar. I make mine from Figure 8 protein shake mix (you can see the figure 8 line at www.naturallylovely.myarbonne.com . I have an awesome protein bar recipe if you would like it. Then I eat a large salad for dinner with lean meats & TONS of veggies, no soda even if it's diet (try sparkling mineral water), lots of water. And I stay away from sweets, I will have an occasional low-carb ice cream bar as a treat.

Everyone is different but I lost 10 lbs. in 4 weeks!!! Whoo Hoo!!! And that was with a couple pretty big "cheat days" due to anniversaries & such. Feel free to message me with any questions. GL

First in order to lose weight a person needs to realize that diet is 80 percent of any weight loss program. I gained 60 lbs. with my son and I had a hard time losing the last 30 lbs. I was an older mother and my metabolism had almost shut down. I went to the gym and got a trainer. She was great! It took me almost a year but I got the weight off. She helped me with a healthy diet and I was very determined. Spinach is wonderful to add to your diet. I don't like the phrase "going on a diet" because that implies a temporary fix and weight loss has to be a life change. Denise Austin has several videos out and also has a program that has a healthy diet and different exercises. I followed that program for a while and it was successful. Eat smaller meals about seven times a day. Stay away from the processed food. Never let your body feel hungry. I love doing yoga or pilates because they use core strength to do all the different exercises.

I also went and got some bloodwork done and got on the bio-identical hormones and this also helped. My thyroid gland was not functioning properly and I got that straightened out. Progesterone helped me also.

Don't forget that diet (what you eat) is a big part of weight management. Generally when drugs cause us to gain weight, the mess with our appetite signals in our brain and we eat more without realizing it. You'll need to reprogram you brain to remember to eat less. I've had success with a food journal. I wrote down everything I ate, and realized what I needed to cut out (portions are the major thing here. Ice cream, cookies, etc aren't inherantly bad, if you eat a small amount. And eating too much of the best foods can still cause weight gain). Veggies are freebies for the most part, but I found I had to measure everything from ice cream (1/2 cup is a serving) to cereal (check the box) to spaghetti (a serving is much smaller than we expect). Use a smaller plate and eat slowly to feel like your eating more than you are.

I had a friend who gained a lot of weight from meds and couldn't loose it. Her doctor eventually gave her an appetite suppresant for a while and she was able to loose a lot of the weight. You may want to ask about that to help you get going, but you're also going to have to take charge again in thinking about what you put in your mouth.

Good luck!!!!!

Out of curiosity was the medication Zyprexa? I had undergone a gastric bypass and lost 100 lbs. Then my doctor prescribed Zyprexa and it caused me to gain 75 lbs in 2 months. I've never lost that weight and it has been almost 7 years now. I am so angry about it because the bypass was a wasted $22,000 operation.
