My baby boy is 1 month old. He has slowly gotten a larger belly. My doctor was very concerned and sent me to primary children's hospital after several tests they found that everything is connected ok and they said he just makes a lot of gas in his stomach. After the hospital it kept getting bigger. My doctor told me to go off all dairy. HIs stomach isn't getting as big now but after he eats he is very uncomfortable and fusses. He is not colicy any time else except for right after he eats. Does anyone have any home remedies or natural things or any other diagnosis I could suggest to my doctor he is puzzled.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you everyone who helped me think of different ideas. I was able to go to a specialist and it turns out my baby has very weak muscles that move air in the intestines. She said I can give him a pill that helps break down lactose. The brand that she suggested was dairy ease. She said as the muscles keep working eventually my baby will be better at passing gas and won't get bloated. Thanks Again!

My son was quite gassy as an infant but didn't really get a bloated stomach. My niece on the other had would cry in pain after she ate even though she'd had a good burp. I have read a little about reflexology and checked out my book at home for some ideas on relieving her pain. I laid her on my lap with her feet toward me, and would rub her feet, from near the heels up toward her toes. That seemed to ease her pain and she quit crying. I can't send a copy of the page from the book that shows where to rub, but try it just in case. At least it won't hurt. Good luck!

You can boil fennel seeds and have the baby drink the water or fennel oil and rub it on his belly and the bottoms of his feet Pepermint is also calming to the belly.

My friend's doctor told her to give her son 2 ounces of warm water a day and afterward just hold him straight up under his arm pits for a while and he would relieve his gas. He also had her get a q-tip, put some vaseline on it, lay him on his side with his knees up, and she would open his little bum hole with it and his gas would come out. I know that sounds gross but she said it was wonderful to be able to relieve him. So sorry for the graphic details! She said it worked.

First of all, I strongly urge that you not try any remedies with one so little until after you have cleared it with your Dr. Things that are wonderful for adults can be very bad for a 1 month old baby.
Secondly, the symptoms made me think of celiac-sprue (sp?). He is very little, but it may be possible that gluten from your diet gets into your milk supply, and this could cause problems.
Hope this helps

I would try gripe water. I had a friend recommend this for me to use with my daughter who wasn't severely gassy, but it helped a lot. There are some pharmacies that mix their own, or you can purchase it online or through some high-end baby stores. Hope this helps.

I'm so sorry that sounds so frustrating, hang in there!! My baby boy was having problems with gas and reflux at about this age, it got so bad he would refuse to breastfeed. I eliminated dairy from my diet ( which takes 2 weeks to get out of our breastmilk!) and the problem persisted so I ended up having to do an "elimination diet" which means for 2 weeks I ate nothing but meat and rice, after the two weeks is up I added back one food at a time into my diet one day at a time, so for example if I was adding eggs into my diet, I would have eggs for breakfast lunch and dinner and then watch my baby closely to see how he responded. We ended up finding out he was allergic to dairy, soy and corn!! making me an attentive label reader and severely restricting my diet. If your baby has a food allergy this might help, it could also help if it's celiac sprue like someone else suggested because you would also be eliminating gluten from your diet. Either way, talk to your doctor and good luck!
