I don't know why you are wanting to stop nursing, so I am going to assume either your situation has changed or you are just plain done nursing. That being said, formula tastes really, really, really bad - especially if you are used to the sweetness of breast milk. I wouldn't recommend mixing breast milk with formula only because my pediatrician advised against it because it can wreck havoc on baby's tummy. Check with your pediatrician - usually a phone call or email to your pediatrician is enough. Basically, breast milk or formula is the primary food until baby turns one to one and half, so don't just quit. Right now food is mostly for practice - the chewing, finding the right place to put it, swallowing, etc not really for nutrition. My son was also breast fed (until 18 months when I was done) and would only take formula when I was no where around. I had to be out of the house. Try having someone else give her the formula from a cup while you aren't there. I wouldn't do a bottle only because you'll need to break her from the bottle at 12 months anyway or it will be a huge power struggle. Plus, if she gets breast milk from a bottle she may reject the formula because it is nasty and she's expecting sweet breast milk. The cup will be novel and she might be more willing to try it. Good luck!
