It takes my husband and about 2 hours a night to get our 2 monthk old to finally fall asleep. He dozes off when we are holding him, but when we put him in his crib he always wakes up after about 15 minutes. Is he too young to let him cry himself to sleep? From what I hear we cant start letting him cry himself to sleep until he is 12 weeks old bc infants feel abandoned. Please help!

What can I do next?

Ditto the Weissbluth suggestion, the book is called, "Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child" In the meantime, one of the basic premisses (sp?) of the book is that sleep begets sleep. In other words, start the process of putting him to bed earlier and long before he seems tired. This method from the book helped us sleep train both our daughters now 5 and 7. And that rule still holds true, the earlier they go to bed the longer they sleep. It seems counterintuitive, but it works! Good luck!

I started sleep training at 8 weeks b/c I needed my baby to learn to fall asleep on her own by the time I started fulltime work. It's a bit early, but I had a feeling she could handle it, and I was ready to train her too.

I followed the methods of Dr. Weissbluth and my friend also worked as a peds nurse in his office.

good luck to you!

I also love that book, but at this age, I recommend swaddling them. We had the "Happiest Baby on the Block" by Dr. Karp, and I didn't believe his swaddling advice so we didn't start until our son was over a month and a half old, but we were desperate by that point. We were geting no more than an hour of sleep at a time, but once we started swaddling tightly, our son went to sleep more quickly and stayed asleep for 4 hours at a time- immediately! You can get the DVD of the book which will teach you how to get your baby to sleep faster and longer- and it really works!!
