My daughter just turned three and I am trying to find a nursery school/preschool for her for this September. We live in the south east Bronx (Castle Hill section/near Whitestone Bridge). We are open to schools in the Bronx & Lower Westchester.

I am eager to find a program that is academic oriented or a combination of academic/play oriented (not just strictly play). Ideally, we would love to find a school that offers classes 2 -3 times a week for 2 -3 hours.

Can anyone lead me in the right direction??? Know of a school worth checking out? Know of a helpful resource/website in choosing a school for your child?

Thanks so much!!! --J.

Try Children's Corner Nursery. They have programs for infants upto pre-K. My son, now 17 months, has been there since he was 3 months old and I've been very happy with the program. They are located in the Hutchinson Metrocenter Complex in the Bronx. They also have several locations in Westchester, inlucding one in New Rochelle. I believe the program for older childern is academically oriented, but you can find out more on their website at childrenscornernersery.com. They offer programs that are five days/all day. But I know that there are opitons to do fewer and/or shorter days.

Good luck.

Hi! My name is M. I to live in the Bronx. I have an amazing school that my 2 1/2old daughter has been attending since she was 17mo. The are educational with some play but more geared to the educational side. What they tell you they offer and will give your child has been on track since the day she started. The school is called KIDDIE COLLEGE, located off Boston Rd. in the Hillside section of the Bronx. They offer great hours for working parents as well. I could go on and on about the school I would rate it a ten out of ten. I have no family here in NY let alone the Bronx so it was very important to me to find the rght fit for her to be so that I could return to work. She was in daycare and that just didn't work and that is how I found KIDDIE COLLEGE. You will not be disappointed. Good luck.

Hi J.,
My child attends Pre-K at St. Francis of Assisi School on Baychester Avenue. However, it's full-time, 8am to 2:45pm M-F. It's near the Bronx/Mt. Vernon border. I'm very pleased with the curriculum, which balances play and academics. Their website is http://www.sfabx.com
Good luck with your search.

My daughter goes to a great school called A You're Adorable in Pelham Bay Park in the Bronx. Not far from where you are and is a short car ride. My daughter is 2 and already recognizes colors, numbers and letters. You can check out their website at www.ayouradorablepreschool.com and I definitely recommend you setting up a visit to see what they do with the children. I love the school!
