Kitty litter and borax. Just the cheep litter will absorb the oil out of the carpet and the borax will help the kitty litter absorb the smell too.

I left a can of gas in my car last summer by accident and it expanded and got all over my back seat floor board. I left the windows open as much as possible, threw out the floor mat and put kitty litter on it for a couple of days. The smell did go away. I just need a new floor mat now :o).

Hello S.,
I would strongly suggest you detail your car. However, before receiving services, inform them of the smell to make certain they are able to get rid of. In the meantime, whenever your car is parked at a safe location, roll down your windows a little, to allow ventilation. As you know, inhaling those fumes is not healthy at all. LJB

Try putting kitty litter on the area where the kerosene spilled. Place an old towel over it, then place something heavy on top of the towel to help the kitty litter and towel absorb the remaining kerosene. Leave overnight. Scrape up as much of the litter as possible, then vacuum the rest out of the carpet. Try using "Spot Shot" carpet cleaner to remove the rest of the kerosene. You should be able to find it in the section with cleaning products. It's in a dark blue can with an orange top. Get the aerosol, it works the best.

That is something you need professional help with. We could extract the kerosene and rinse it -- I can't imagine driving with that smell every day! Where are you located? Call if you need advice! ###-###-#### All-Star Chem-Dry. We could come to you and do it after hours if you need to.

I have heard that you can use eucalyptus oil. Also have heard of using baking soda and vinegar. Good luck!

Hi S. -- I actually did the very same thing in my Wrangler and, I hate to tell you, but nothing worked. I had to keep the windows/roof open continuously (even at night when the Jeep was in the driveway or in the garage) for several weeks until eventually the smell went away.

Good luck!

Before my Grandfather died in June he spilled Gasoline in the car-boy did it stink! Anyways we put baking soda down which didn't completely take the smell away but it surely helped!
Another suggestion would be to try diluted Vinegar-Vinegar is supposed to be a great cleaning agent and also great odor destroyer although I never have tried it on carpet and so forth so you might want to "test" spot first. If all else fails go and get it professionally cleaned. The smell will eventually go away it just takes time but I think the more you try to clean it the better.
