My sons have both been drinking Silk (vanilla) since he was 10 months old. I breastfeed, it was just supplemental, but both my 3 year old and my 15 month old have shown no ill effects from it.
I am trying to figure out when I need to start letting my 11 month old try soy milk, he is un able to have cows milk? Thank you every one.
I want to give a Thanks to all the moms for the advice and I am going to go today and get soy milk, he has had this problem since he was 2 months old. The only thing that I think is weird is he is able to handle cheese and a few other milk products but when it comes to milk it tears his stomach up. Thank you again ladies. Oh if possible could you please tell me a good brand of soy to buy?

now is a good time to start mixing a little of it in a bottle with either breastmilk or soy based formula (which ever you are using). If he normally takes an 8 oz bottle start with 1oz soy milk and 7 oz of what you normally use. Slowly increase the ratio. This should make the transition easy and give you pleanty of time to be aware of any problems
I think you can. I had the same problem with my daughter and she still on soy milk ( the continental 8 from HEB Or WAL-MART Original ) She drinks it with out a problem.
I find out that she was lactose intolerance around that same age of your little boy, my daughter justed turn red and even some times vomit! We try Rice milk and it did the same so we end up with just soy milk, It was so new to me especially since she was my first baby, I feel your pain. Soy milk is very healthy too, I hope this help you :)
HI A.,
I have a six year old son that is Lactose Intolerent and my pediatrician told me to start introducing soy milk to him in his bottle at 10 months old but to do it half and half for a while and the gradually over the next 2 months introduce more soy milk than formula until he was on straight soy milk.
It worked very well for me and Luke but i would say to concult your pediatrician before trying it.
Hope this helps and good luck to you.
My 4 yr old was allergic to cows milk and I started him on Soy at 11months thru a sippy cup. I started with one a day and then started to increase it. My youngest who is 18months old started to drink soy milk a little bit earlyer then her brother. She started it at 9 1/2 months only cause I was nursing and going back to work and didnt want her on formula. Good luck.
I would start trying it now. Once they turn a year old they need to come off of formula, so now would be good. Try small bottles first then gradually move up to a bigger bottle or cup.
My son had to take in soy milk from day one. Meaning, the doctor's put him on soy at birth because he was way lactose intolerant. Of course it was a soy formula but then he graduated to the soy milk after when he turned one. He is now 19 and will always have to have soy. Good Luck and God Bless
My daughter now 21 months has been on soy milk since she was 10 months old. I started her on one cup a day and gradually increased her intake every three days. I use 8th Continent soy Milk( Can buy it at Wal-Mart or HEB) because it is not a thick like Silk or the HEB brand. My daughter loves to drink it. If your son doesnt like the taste of original, mix half vanilla soy and half original until he gets used to it. I was told by my doctor that children who drink soy milk also have less ear infections. My daughter has never had one to this day.
Now is a good time. Give it a try.

I believe the ped doc said at a year to introduce cows milk and think it would prolly be the same with soy, although every baby diffrent. ( we started our youngest on cows milk at 9 months since just about every formula disagreed with him)
You will just have to continue to offer it until her trys, don't give up.

My son is 12 months and he can handle cheese, cottage cheese and yogurt and was fine. I started giving him small amounts of whole milk and it gave him loose stools and really bad diaper rash. I talked to my Dr. about it and he recommeded the soy milk. I talked to my friend who is a pedi nurse and she said to try goats milk first. I did - you can buy it at HEB. He has been on goats milk for a week now - only 6 oz a day since I believe in slowly introducing new things and he's fine - no more being fussy, stools are fine and not a spec of diaper rash. Goats milk is better than cows milk. The Dr.s forget that. You may want to try it before the soy - it would be the nest best thing to breast milk. Compare goats milk to whole milk and see the difference in protein and vitamin D.
Hope this helps
