I am getting ready to start an intense workout program and really want to have a great hour of motivating upbeat music to listen to. I am so out of tune with music these days that I don't even know what groups are out there (besides Miley Cyrus which my daughter can't get enough of!). Can you tell me your favorite songs/groups and maybe aI can download some. I like pretty mugh all kinds of music except HARD rock and rap. THANK YOU!!!

My MP3 workout list is very diverse. I really enjoyed hearing "Fergalicious" - you might categorize it as rap, but it's a very high energy song and she talks about "working on my fitness". It always makes me push a little harder - but it really depends on what you like. Any music that makes you happy and is up beat helps. Good luck.

I like 80s music in general, but honestly, there is a lot of really upbeat music from that era to work out to. You might find an 80s collection CD or just look for some bands from that time. Michael Jackson's early works, Janet Jackson, Wham!, Bon Jovi, Van Halen, The Cars, The Bangles...that's just a few of my favs.

Congrats on working out! I need to do that....LOL!

PS. I LOVE Uppercase living! I haven't been able to put any up in my house yet, but I found a booth at the Women's Expo last year and it sparked so many ideas! The lady I talked to lives in Idaho?...something like that. I'll keep you in mind!

Don't know what kind of work out you are doing, but when I started running these are some of the songs I liked...Don't Stop Me Now - Queen, Basket Case - Green Day, I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles) - The Proclaimers, Spiderwebs - No Doubt, All The Small Things - Blink 182, Jenny Says - Cowboy Mouth. I know some of these are a little off the wall, but give them a listen. Hope this helps.

What Miley is not on your favs list!!:) I have a 9 year old and of course we have HS Musical 1 & 2 then Miley and Hannah...but then I love Blake Lewis from Idol last year, also Daughtery, Carrie Underwood..ok we like AI. You don't like rap, but I have some old school and 80's stuff. If you go to Itunes, you can search by year, genre, whatever. You can also listen the songs a bit first. Also, I went to the library and borrowed cd's to burn to my mp3 so I didn't spend a ton of money. It doesnt' take much for 1 hour of music. I tend to like to hear the same songs each time. Enjoy!

I find that Techno music which has a constant beat is good to excercise too. I'll tell you two sites where you can download free & legal music by up & coming but unknown artist. Of course you have to listen to each song to find out if you're going to like it or not. And that takes awhile, but it's worth it. Check out Garageband.com & Download.com. I have found tons of free downloads there. And personally I think if you like the song & it makes you feel like dancing when you listen to it, then thats the one,-)

OK, S., this one might not be to your taste, but...

We LOVE Bollywood music! I like a lot of diverse music, world music, stuff with interesting melodies, instrumentation, and rhythm. Also, I tend to listen to lyrics, and if I think the lyrics are dumb, I start feeling very irritated!

So, for my purposes, listening to music in languages I can't understand is good when I want pure motivation from the music without being sidetracked by some trite junk that the song might actually be about ;)!

In my opinion, modern (Asian) Indian music is terrific in SO many ways. Most songs have an excellent, driving beat, unusual and clever/unpredictable melodies, and are great to move to.

I just got a new CD called Dard-E-Disco from a local Indian music video store nearby, and, while I'd call it kind of "sell-out" Bollywood music, since it's been mixed with techno to become like one continuous song, it's GREAT for keeping your energy up. In fact, I've been thinking of taking it to my kickboxing aerobics class instructor to see if she'd be interested to use it.

Other Bollywood favorites of mine come from the Lagaan and Dil Chahta Hai soundtracks, particularly "Chale Chalo" from Lagaan (which is a song about continuing to try), and "Kohe Kahe Kehta Rahe," "Woh Lahdki Hai Kahan," and "Tanhayee" from Dil Chahta Hai.

I hope you can give these a try :)! Might sound strange if you haven't been exposed to Bollywood music before, but it's WONDERFUL, energetic music!

Here's a link to tracks from Lagaan:

And here's the stuff from Dil Chahta Hai:
http://ww.smashits.com/associates/bollywoodworld/index.cf...

Also, I LOVE the music of the Hawaiian group Sudden Rush. It's a blend of Reggae, Rap, Traditional, Hip Hop -- a bit of everything but excellently produced, with terrific quality of voices. VERY COOL!

You can hear some of their music here:

"Hi'ilawe" and "Ride Through Paradise" are two of my ultra-favs.

Good luck with your workouts!! I'm off to do one myself now!

The soundtrack to That Thing You Do has a few very upbeat and GREAT songs, if you like the 60s sound. Also I'm a long-time fan of his, but my latest true addiction is Keith Urban. He's labeled country but has more of a rock feel. Faster-paced songs: Days Go By, Somebody Like You, Once in a Lifetime, Who Wouldn't Wanna Be Me... here's a link to his greatest hits, with sample tunes (and an AWESOME video.... ;-)
http://www.amazon.com/Greatest-Hits-Keith-Urban/dp/B000WM...

Having said that, here are my fast-paced, feel-good iPod favorites: Cryin' / Mama Kin / Walk This Way (Aerosmith), Respect (Aretha), Best Years of Our Lives (Baha Men), Fun, Fun, Fun (Beach Boys), Jumpin Jack (Big Bad Voodoo Daddy), Closer to Free (BoDeans), 1985 (Bowling for Soup), Shake It Up (Cars), Summer of '69 / This Time (Bryan Adams), Sin Wagon (Dixie Chicks), Undo Me / In the Name (Jennifer Knapp) - LOVE her, Authority Song / Rumble Seat (Mellencamp), Just a Girl (No Doubt), Steve McQueen (Sheryl Crow). You could download most of them individually off the Web too.

Good luck working out!

Hi S.. I am a work out aholic....Try going to www.itrain.com There are a variety of workouts, including walking, running, biking and stretching. You listen to the instructor and the music. The time flies by while Grace and Keith tell you what to do. I also like podcasts on itunes and they are free. If you just want music, try Kelly Clarkson, Biance, Christina and Furgie. Out of all of them I really like the podcasts, it is straight up music and you pick how many beats per minute.
I am a certified trainer if you need any more advice.

My absolute favorites: Daughtry (love love love the CD) Nice thing about that CD too, there is no bad language in ANY song. Great if the kids are listening to it too. My 4 year old knows all the words to all the songs. Also: Matchbox 20. I love their CDs. Some stuff from the 80's which is great is: The Damn Yankees and the censored version of Gwen Stefani is fun to work out to. It still has some bad language in it so be careful if your daughter is around.

I listen to mostly country music, but for my ipod it is a little different. I downloaded music just for working out. I tried to pick current, up-beat things that would get me going. For example (and please ignore my spelling mistakes on names here), I have a few Gwen Stefani, Fergie, and Justin Timberlake (I'm Bringing Sexy Back is a GREAT motivating song!hahaha). The rest are country such as Brad Paisley, Kenny Chesney, Sugarland, Tobi Keith, and Trace Adkins (I suggest One Hot Mama from him!). I also put some Bon Jovi on there to get my 80's fix.

I have also seen on itunes that they have workout music already put together. Do a search and you may find a group of songs already put together that you like and could just download that.

Whatever you do, pick music that you can move to and sing to so that you have fun with it. And good luck with your work out!

Well, I usually listen to hard rock as it keeps me going for all my cardio, but since you don't like it I'd stick to any of the "Now That's What I Call Music" cds... If you are looking just to download from the internet, here are some good ones: Avril Lavigne (Girlfriend), Pink (U + Ur Hand), Justin Timberlake (Summer Love), Kelly Clarkson (Never Again), Huey (Pop, Lock & Drop It)... But... If you are feeling adventurous - ANYTHING by Flyleaf or Shinedown (you can check out their videos on youtube.com)... They would most likely be considered hard rock, but give them a listen anyway... They TOTALLY keep me pumped to work out (and no vulgar language)...
