Need Good Pediatrician in Waco Area

My son just turned a year old and we have been going to a pediatrician here in Waco since we moved here (when he was three weeks old). Lately I have been very dissatisfied with the service and advice of this pediatrician. We found out about a month ago that my son had a milk and egg allergy. Even though he had been sick for 3-4 months and I took him to the doctor several times, they never suggested that it could be a food allergy making him sick. The only reason we found out is because he had a severe allergic reaction when I gave him a soup with lots of dairy in it. At the time he was still breastfeeding, but when he turned one I began to wean him. I started giving him soy milk, then someone told me that soy milk has a estrogen element in it that causes femininity in boys and early development in girls. I have done my own research and found evidence to support this. When I asked my doctor about it, he said he didn't beleive it, but it did not seem like he really knew much about it. So I told my doctor I had already switched to goat's milk because I didn't want to find out if it was true or not (about the soy milk). The doctor told me to not give him goat milk because it would casuse a disease: brucella abortus. Once again, I did my own research and found out that brucella can be caused by any unpasteurized animal milk, not just goat's milk. I am only buying and giving my son pasteurized goat's milk. Furthermore, the staff at his office are very "busy" and quite rude. They don't seem to have time to answer my questions. One girl didn't even know the difference between lactose intolerance and a milk allergy. So, I have decided to find another pediatrician, but I don't know where to begin. Does anyone have a great pedi in the Waco area that they would refer me to?
Thank you so much for your help!

I highly recommend Dr. Bierwirth at Scott and White Fishpond. I hear the other dr's there are good also. My daughter likes him... He is very good and have been going to him for 5 years. Welcome to the waco area! The Mayborn Museum and Zoo here are fantastic!

Hi A., I can highly recommend Dr. Sue Stanko! She recently moved to a new office in Hewitt ###-###-####, so she's right out by you I see. My daughter is now 6 and she has been her Pedi since before she was born. She came to the hospital to see her and check her out personally the day she was born. I love her and just about everyone that I know with children use her as their Pedi as well! Also, my bestfriend's daughter has just about every food allergy there is and she took her to everyone under the sun. And Dr. Sue is the one that finally figured what the problem was! Good luck!

I beleve Dr.Neismith is great! Everyone has different opinions though on what makes a doctor great. We started seeing him when I had my some (who is the youngest of 3). I had used other pedi's with my other 2 but have not liked them as much as we like Dr.Neismith! My son was lactose intolerant as a baby and we did soy. He is just fine!

Welcome to the area! I moved here last August, myself. We go to Dr McDonald at Hillcrest pediatrics. I love him. He takes the time each appointment to sit and talk to you, to observe your child. He also is very breastfeeding and alternative method friendly. I highly recommend him!

I have taken my children to the Scott & White off of Fish Pond for 9 years and would recommend them. I'm not sure which doctor you use.

A.,

We see Scott Blattman at the Hillcrest Clinic on Hwy 6 and Bosque. He is not a pediatrician, but rather a family doctor. That has been helpful for us because usually when our child is sick, we are all sick and we can all do a family visit. It's been VERY convenient and Scott is GREAT. He is extremely knowledgeable! Hope this helps!

we have been going to dr spark........but alot of what you say i see going on at his office. so if you are not going there i guess it's alot the same. dr spark is old but usually good. he does not give meds quickly and he usually listens. he is old fashion some people like that and some don't. but as i said he is old you will probally want a dr your child will grow up with. i personally like dr spark if its more serious than a general visit...then its time to seek more professional advice in that area. good- luck

Hi A., Welcome to the Waco area. My Name is K. L and I have used Dr. Pat Pryor ###-###-####)for about 26yrs. He is a family Dr. but is wonderful with kids. My 4y.o. granddaughter goes to him also. My daughter when she was little, would take his things....like beeper, watch things like that and he would never mind her doing so. Of course she would have to give them back at end of visit. But he never minded. My 4y.o. granddaughter goes to him and he has used things like his little yorkie to get her to do things like open her mouth for him to see her throat. He has a lot of patience with children and new mothers. These are just some of my experiences with him thru the yrs. Also as older teenagers my daughter was also comfortable with him when subjects of sex came up. He just has a unique way of coming across with kids. I have also used him for myself all these yrs and have been totally happy with his services. He has no problems telling you if he doesn't know about something and will direct you to whatever Dr. you need to see ( specialists). I don't know if he is seeing new patients or not but try saying that you got a referal from a long time patient. Hope this helps you out. Also my twin grandsons who live in Leander both drank soy milk and did just fine, no problems here.
