Need Gift Ideas

My husband and I need some special gift ideas for my in-laws. My beautiful SIL passed away last Sept and my husband will be flying home for a memorial next month for her. He wants to bring both of his parents something special as they have had such a rough year grieving for their only daughter. One possible idea for MIL is a ring with her daughters birthstone. No ideas yet on what to get for his dad. Any ideas are much appreciated.

What can I do next?

I produce photo/video montage DVDs and have done many memorial montages. If your family does not have one yet, this would be a great way to remember your SIL and celebrate her life. You can see samples of my work and other info at www.unforgettableslideshows.com.

Whatever you do, I hope it will bring your family joy at this time of sadness.

Since men really aren't into rings, you could get your FIL a watch with your SIL's birthstone. I have a friend who lost their son and her husband got this watch:

He put their son's birthstone and name on it.

Good Luck, and deepest sympathy for your family.

If you think a joint gift would work, both of them might enjoy a scrapbook that celebrates her life. Depending on how many photos you might be able to collect, you could do a large, 12X12 album, or a simple 7X7 or 6X6 album. My favorite albums for gift-giving are the Creative Memories 7X7 books (I used to be a consultant), but Hobby Lobby or Michael's should have plenty of albums to choose from. There are 12 pages and it takes about 2 hours to completely fill and decorate it (there are even kits with pre-cut paper and embellishments designed for the smaller albums). The small albums hold one or two pictures per page. The larger albums can do anywhere from 1 to 5 pictures per page depending on how much writing and decorating you do. I'm pretty simplistic on the decorations, and like to have plenty of room to tell the stories that the pictures represent, so I usually do 3 to 5 pictures on a page in the larger albums.
You could talk to different friends and/or family members (especially those who are in photos with her) and ask them to say what they enjoyed about her, and use their words to write on the pages.

Hi R.,

So sorry to hear of your family's loss. I'm a rep for Planetjill Custom Photo Jewelry & Gifts. One of our heirloom-quality custom photo gifts would be a beautiful way to remember a loved one. A piece of jewelry for her and a key chain for him would be a way for your in-laws to keep her close to their hearts wherever they go. Please let me know if you would like more information. I'd be happy to send you a catalog.

Best,
D. Spitler

Does your husband have a really nice picture of the family with special memories? Maybe getting something like that framed would be really nice for your FIL. I know when my mom passed away 6 years ago, coming across pictures of us and her really meant alot and were very special.
