My daughter just turned 7 and this was our off year for parties. We do parties every other year to save money. The year we do not plan a party we do gifts and take them somewhere. I took my daughter to Libby Liu and she loved it. You could easily do hair, nails and make up at home with the help of a few friends. Also I thought about this when I was there.. All the little girls love Hannah Montana you could borrow a Karoke Machine and let the girls do Karoake.. My daughter loves to sing and dance to Hannah Montana and Highschool Musical. Also they could play like Highschool Musical Twister moves etc.

As for food let them make their own pizza. You can buy the pre-maid pizza dough or make your own from the jiffy Pizza box. It is so simple.

Hi J.,
Depending on the time of day, I have found that "mock" sleep overs are popular with the girls right now. You have the party at about 5 or 6pm- have them come in their pajamas and bring a sleeping bag. Then, feed them pizza or whatever for dinner, do an event (by the way, I do stuffed animal making parties- www.MakeYourOwnStuffedAnimal.com which are perfect for these type parties), and then have them get into their sleeping bags (with their new stuffed animals) and watch a movie with cake, popcorn, and other fun food. THEN, about 9pm or so, they all go home. Soooo, you get the feeling of a sleep-over without the actual sleep over. Perfect for this age.

I did a fairy and unicorn party... check out the unicorn cake at www.familyfun.com I made it and if I can do it you can too!

We had make your own star-wands and head-wreaths as the activity. I made a bunch of little tulle tutu's out of the cheapest tulle I could find (and they were not expert tutus... but good enough) and you can dye tulle... so find the cheapest color, by a ton and dye it the color you like.

I also painted faces with stars and stuff.

And I used extra tulle to drape on the canopy I'd set up and tied big fake flowers at the corners. And I made a huge mushroom. Really. Can't remember what craft-bug struck me that month, but I used a Home Depot 5 gallon bucket, a hula hoop, a TON of newspaper, and brown paper to cover. I think I folded the brown paper over the hula hoop and stapled or taped it. Then I painted it red (with $1 paint I'd found on the OOPS shelves at the store), with white polka dots. Stuffed it with paper to fill it out and bump it up. Placed it on the overturned bucket. It was a great photo shot for each girl as a memento.

How about a candy buffet? I do these for weddings, but they are a great idea for birthday parties too. Depending on the type of candy, they are not too expensive either.
If you don't want to hire out you can do it yourself as well.

good luck!

I would do a "diva" party. You can have stations set up in your house and have the girls rotate through. Mani/pedi, hair, makeup. You can make your own sugar scrub -some granulated sugar and oil with some vanilla extract. you can get body glitter-I think bath and body works has glittery lotion, some hair color that you can put streaks in the girl's hair. You can have feather boas, dress up shoes, jewelry. Then have a dance contest. You can also send each girl home with their own small container of sugar scrub, mini nail polish, and lip gloss for a party favor. I do cakes on the side if you're looking for a cake or if you want to make yourself check out www.coolest-birthday-cakes.com feel free to pm if you'd like a cake! Most of all have fun!!

Inflatables are fun: Jump Houses, slides, combos, obstacle courses and (my favorite) WATER SLIDES!!!!

Check out my mom-owned business: Space Walk of Tyler

or if you are not in my area, look up your local branch at:

If you are in my area, mention that you heard of us on Mamasource and get $10 off your rental (good for anyone who mentions this -- Space Walk of Tyler).

Hope it helps!

My daughter just had a Princess Tea Party, and it was so much fun! We had one out of town, which was just girls, and the one in Dallas was boys and girls. I'd acquired lots of neat Tea Party stuff and dress-up stuff, too...even for the boys. (They were knights! lol)

What is she into right now? Maybe we can help with some more themes/ideas. :)
