I've just moved to the 'New Tampa' area from out-of-state and I'm looking for advice on the best schools in the area. My soon-to-be second grader is bright, athletic, and very social and I want to make sure I enroll her in the best possible school - whether public or private.

What can I do next?

Dear L. M.

"New Tampa" can cover a great deal of territory and I am not sure exactly where you live within the New Tampa boundaries, but if you are within the school boundaries of Clark Elementary School (public school).....you and your child will be truly blessed with Clark Elem. I personally know the Principal of the school as well as many of the teachers and they are all top notch in their field. The school is fairly new and is beautiful. The layout of the school was very well thought out and actually had a great deal of input from the Principal, Mrs. Valerie Orehuela. She has probably the largest group of the highest academic teachers on staff...definitely a A++ school.

Look into it and I am sure that you will be very pleased.

New Tampa has good public schools. Check their report card grade - this will give you an indication for starters, though the way they determine this is a bit controversial. With public schools in Tampa you are pretty much locked into the school in your "zone", unless you can select another school under the "Choice" program. If the school is already overcrowded then the chances of getting in are slim...unless you request a special assignment. Anyway, enough on that. Check out the message boards for the large communities in your area or talk to your neighbors.

I do have a few recommendations..one of course is Victorious Life Academy, they are very reasonably priced and a GREAT school, if she is a christian she would be very happy having her kids there. Some other schools are Academy at The Lakes in L.O.L. and Cambridge school in Tampa they are excellent schools but very pricey, (Cambridge is a christian school..Academy at the Lakes is not) they also go all the way up to 12th grade where V.L.A. only goes up to 6th right now.
