I live in the Weatherford/Aledo area (west of Fort Worth) but I work near downtown Fort Worth. For the working moms out there--what is better: having the daycare close to your home or work? I feel like I should move her to a daycare closer to work but want to know from others if it's a good move. Thanks!

So What Happened?

I agree with all the perks of having the daycares close to work, and since I have no family close to home, it seems like a logical choice. The only problem is finding a great daycare in the Fort Worth area. Any suggestions??

My husband and I worked on opposite ends of metroplex. So we preferred to have them close to our house, pediatrician, etc. that way either one of us could be on parenting duty :) meaning if the boys were ill, it was my husband's "turn" he didn't have excuse that he had to drive all the way to X and pick them up. It also kept them out of the car for long periods of time in the AM and PM.
Of course, I got lucky with the last two child care centers and they were employer owned/ran and near my house!!

For me I liked having my child closer to me at work. Then I could, like Courtney said get to her much faster. It also allowed me to have lunch w/her alot and also attend class parties and activities too! I also enjoyed spending that 25 mins driving to work w/her rather than alone. We would sing and make up songs and poems. I was trying to think why it would be more benefitial to have her closer to home, and the only thing I could think of was if her grandparents or aunts were close to be there for her but none of my family lives near us. I also think your decision should depend on how good of a daycare you have found. If its a great one near your house as opposed to a so-so one right by work, it may be a better choice to leave her close to home. Good luck w/your decision.

I think it's better to have the daycare closer to work. This way, when there is an emergency, like your 2 year old son is pushed and bangs his forehead on the bookshelf corner requiring a trip to the doctor's to get the gash stitched up, you are able to get to them much sooner and then get to the appointed destination quickly. Speaking of doctors, take into account where the pediatrician and other doctors offices are when deciding on a daycare location.
