I am 1 25-year-old nursing mother to a 7 month old baby girl. I love nursing my daughter, and nursed my 2-year-old daughter until she was 2. However, the problem I'm having this time around, is she doesn't like to nurse on the right side. I try to force her too, but she nurses for a little bit then unlatches herself. She really likes to nurse on the left side. It wasn't a problem really until yeasterday I looked in the mirror and realized I am lopsided. I know it's kind of vain, but it bothers me, and was wondering if anyone else dealt with this issue. I'm really looking for advice on how to help her nurse on the right side and if I can balance it out or somehow produce more milk on my right side, or if it even is fixable. Any support at this moment will help me feel better. Thank you!

What can I do next?

My son liked to nurse on the right... my only advice is to let your daughter nurse on the left, where she feels comfortable and then pump the other side. She will get enough milk on the one side, not a problem... your body will compensate.

Good Luck

I would say let her eat on the left to her hearts content and maybe pump on the right?

7 months old, maybe she's starting to get her first teeth??? If so it could be hurting one particular side of her mouth more than the other which would make her prefer the left breast more.
Or...could she have an ear infection? Again, if it's in one particular ear it may be more painful when she's laying a certain way to eat.
Just pump if you can to make sure you don't get sore and your right breast keeps up its production while she's nursing away on the other side.
Good luck!

Yes I am going to suggest you give her you right side right as she is waking up or use that one as she is falling asleep. That is how i did mine but I am also still lopsided!! it should change after you are done breastfeeding. I am also stay at home mom also, i loe it at times and regret it also. So i know the feeling you are feeling!!!

Have you tried taking her to a chiropractor? In my practice, I see many babies who have difficulty breastfeeding on one side, and often there is a structural problem that makes it uncomfortable for them to lay in a certain position and/or difficult to suck in a certain position.

BTW, I am a pregnancy/pediatric chiropractor in Overland Park, as well as a doula and mom-to-be, so I have much experience working with breastfeeding issues. If you have any specific questions, please feel free to write back or call me at my office ###-###-####).

I too had this problem and found if I held my son in the "football" position he would nurse on the opposing side. Keep the same positionong as the left side, only bring her around your body to the right breast. You may need to use pillows to support her at first, or nurse her in the bed. Could it possibly be an ear infection that makes her uncomfortable on that side? Both are only suggestions. Best of luck to you.
