It could even be that the flow is too fast? What kind of bottles do you use? Many bottles have nipples that are specifically shaped and designed for breastfed babies.
I've been soley breastfeeding my 2 month old daughter. We have given her a bottle maybe three times and she did take it. It has been a couple of weeks since we've tried. So, yesterday her grandma tried to give it to her and she refused. She even tried different nipples because the newborn flow seems too slow. Any tricks? Any favorite bottles/nipples to use? Any advice is helpful!!!
I'm going to try again until she takes it. I appreciate everyone's advice and help!! Will keep you posted on how she does. Thanks again:)

M.,
I would encourage you to use the same bottle and nipple that she previously fed with and stick to it. Babies thrive on consistency and switching nipples on her regularly will only confuse her. If she took a bottle before then use the same nipple. Also - try warming the nipple by running it underneath the warm faucet before giving it to her. I also would feed her in a different position than you breastfeed. Face her outwards and walk around while you are trying to feed her as to provide her with a distraction.
I just posted a response on another thread regarding Sleeping. I am a professional Newborn Care Specialist and work with Moms regarding all their newborn challenges. I just helped a Mom the other day with this same issue who was returning back to work in 2 weeks.
I will be at Babies R Us this weekend giving a talk on Healthy Sleep Habits for your Baby and would encourage you to come by if you want to speak further regarding this issue. The Foothill Ranch store is having their monthly Baby Festival on Saturday from 11 - 3. Please come by! I occasionally lead seminars at local venues so as to allow all families to have an opportunity to discuss their challenges with me. I normally only work with clients on a consulting basis so it's a great time for you to get some free advice. :)
Good Luck! Be persistent and patient with her. She will take it and when she does make sure she has at least ONE bottle a day as to prevent another "strike" from her.

My son does the same thing and is the same age. What i have found that helped get him to take the bottle is to pump my breastmilk so that he's getting the same thing. I give him a bottle at least once a day although now I supplement organic soy formula as well, but only right before bed. I also use the "Shhh Shhh Shhh" sound for him to settle him down. I hold him close to me and rock him. I am persistent. You just have to make sure that you stay firm on her taking it. She will learn that it's ok, but it's not easy. Be strong! Once you get her used to taking the bottle from you it will also be easier for her to take it from someone else.
Try to find a nipple that resembles yours. I use the Evenflow bottle/nipple. It is wider and textured and my son took to it instantly. I hope you find one that works well for your daughter.
use breast milk and this little trick was given to me by one of the nurses who had to bottle feed my newborn after becoming very sick do not hold the infant to close to the body, infants feet should be facing your abdomon, hold infants back and head over your knees, hope this isn't to confusinf and i hope it helps.

The breast feeding bottle thing is very tricky. My first baby was born early and did not have the sucking reflex so she took the bottle for two weeks while the reflex developed and then never took the bottle again. With my second daughter I think I found the trick... for her anyway was that I had to make one feeding with the bottle at least every other day so she remembered it. I couldn't skip large periods of time or we had to start over. As far as getting your daughter to take the bottle again, I think it will just be persistence and then you kind of have to stick with it. when she was really little she liked the Soothies (green nipple - like the apcifier they give them at the hospital.) But as she got older liked the Avent because the flow was faster.
Dont get discouraged. For her next feedings each time give her the bottle nipple of your choice or rather one that resimples your nimple most. And it will take a few times but before you breast feed, And i know this sounds mean but let her fuss and cry. Trust me she will take a little taste each time and each time will be more and more. What i did i started my daughter on a sipie cup at 4 months old never had a bottle. Til she was 9 mons and that was just for fun. Good luck and God Bless.
I had really good luck with the Dr. Browns bottles. My son was unable to breastfeed (long story), and we tried a whole bunch of bottles when he was just a few days old, and those worked the best for him. They have a straw that lets the air back in, which is helpful for breasfed babies who aren't used to the suction of a bottle.
you might want to try the playtex drop in's the nipple on those are very simular to the breast
I have 3 kids too and only one would do both bottle and breast! Just keep trying! Are you using expressed milk? We tried an eye dropper and even a spoon and my little guy would not do it. Everyone said when he gets hungry enough he will....well he went seven hours refusing one day while I had to be gone. He was only 8 weeks! I cried and quit my job and nursed him for two years. Good luck!
