OK, so at work we have 'adopted' a family in need for Christmas. The child I am buying for is a 7-year old boy who has Spongebob and Bionicles on his wish list (the people in our department split up who is getting what from his wish list.) I need to know what kids that age are looking for in these two categories. I will be spending $20-$30 on him. My boys are 2, and they love anything that has Spongebob on it,and they are not into Bionicles yet. Any ideas will help. Thanks!

What can I do next?

Bionicles are easy. I think less vague. Bionicles are all about the same. They look like man shaped robots and my son just bought another one at Walmart. They had some on sale for $10 each (orginally $12 or $13) Probably less expensive than what you might find them for at Toys R Us.

Bionicles are a form of Lego. Keep this in mind while shopping, it involves lots of pieces, little ones that if the character is taken apart will be sucked up in the vacuum or swallowed by younger siblings. But my child started getting the bionicles when he was 4 and still gets a few from time to time. The smaller ones have less pieces and you can purchase more of them for the money involved. He will lose his interest in Sponge Bob over the next few months, it is the age.
To bad he isn't into Transformers instead. The the third movie will be out soon. My 11 year old boy and my 14 year old nephew are still collecting these.
I would check with the family if possible and see if they have a DVD or VHS player and maybe get him the movies if they don't have them or books instead of the toys. There are a lot of books on Sponge Bob and Bionicles and those will last longer than the toys, LOL

Hi M.,

My son was into bionicles when he was younger and I think they are your best way to go. Like you said in your post, your 2 yr. olds like spongebob, so the bionicles will be something he will be able to play with longer. He will grow out of spongebob first.

Just in case you don't know what bionicles are, they are a canister of parts that are put together to make a lego-like robot. There are different "generations" and teams of them, so there are alot to choose from. The great thing about them, as we learned with my son, is that you can put the parts together with parts from a different bionicle and make something completely new, which comes in handy when you lose some of the pieces, as children always do. For about $30 you should be able to get him two different canisters. Each bionicle has his own colored canister, so get two different colors.

Hope this helps,

L.

Since he is in school being 7, how about a lunch box or a new back pack. You can fill either of them with the bionicles or more spongebob toys (like pens, note pads erasers etc..school supplies)
Look out for Toys R Us 15% off coupon. you can also sometimes save money by shopping on line and doing a google search for "Toyrus online coupons" (or whatever store). you could get free shipping or an extra percentage off.
Walmart always has good prices for all that stuff.
